    Troy Newman

Im absolutely DEVASTED to hear that Troy Newman passed away 8 years
    ago!
He was the best singer singwriter we've heard in years.
I cant believe he's gone! I thought id do a search to see what he'd be
up to or even see what career path he took on and why he wasnt writing
anymore..and maybe we could make him come back..
guess not it just never occured to me that he died! Certainly not Troy!

I remember he had a postal address of Round Corner which is in Sydney
near me and i never wrote to him to tell him what he gave me.

Confidence to be who i am now!

    thats so sad!

But happy australia day to everyone else

    troy newman

I have been painting, and in a nostalgic mood lately have been playing troy newman"s two cd,s.

and I start thinking about him... and then I suddenly thought I have never looked him up on the net... so here I am.. writing to a post thats 2 years old

I also wanted to say that like the Heath Ledger death, troy's was not necessarily suicide. The autopsy was inconclusive. He had quite a cocktail of substances in his body... but not necessarily lethal
It was probably that one month before he died, he contracted a severe dose of Hepititis A... he looked like a leopard with the yellowest eyes I've ever seen.

Maybe his body could not take it any more.. he died in his sleep, on a fairly ordinary evening with his girlfriends warm body beside him.

I knew him since he was 18

My former husband was his guitar teacher when he was 15 in Perth. In a way he was his mentor and guide.
They both travelled together across the Nullabor, to set up in Sydney.

What ever troy was... a wonderful musician, a feeling and sympathetic poet, he also was a terrific person, like a little angel when he was young, with the same innocence. he sort of had that air about him that he was incorruptable.
But his chance at fame in Los Angeles really did him no favours and only about three months before he died he came back to Sydney, to go back to his grass roots, and clean his act up.
He stayed at our house for about two of those months, and I had some fabulous experiences with him.

I have a lot of nice pictures of troy.. if you'd like me to email them I would be happy to.

Death is such a confusing pricament... but I feel very lucky to have his music to listen to. Yes, very very sad. Up until recently the only two funerals I had ever been to were Troys, and three years earlier, his brothers.

I have a rather naff yellow daisy in the back garden, that whirls around when the wind catches it. I can't bear to throw it out, as he gave it to us, and when it's turning i think of his spirit, and hope it's intact in a good place.

    cheers

    Thank You Wendya

    Hi Wendya
Would first off like to say thank you for your recent comments about Troy, isn't it weird how you think about someone and then for some unknown reason you are guided to a place in life where there is an answer to that very question you are seeking, just reminds me that our time here is only borrowed, I met my wife and married here listening to Troy, I had known about his passing about 3 or 4 years ago, but never new why or how thank you for sharing your precious little piece of life with us. I would love to have a look at those photos of him maybe I could print one and frame it I have a few photos of musicians and actors hanging in my music room and would be honored to hang Troys photo up next to artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen of which I think Troy may have enjoyed being put in the company of such illustrious super stars after all he was a super star to us, I look at the covers of the 2 albums I own and you can see the transformation, Gypsy Moon Young short hair clean cut hansom young man begins his journey, then, It's Like this, Long Hair blurred vision of him freaky how life imitates art, Thanks once again and I hope to hear back from you Martyn

    Troy Newman

Hi Wendya, thank you for your comments on Troy Newman. It was so good to read your notes about how you knew him, etc.

I was only 2 weeks ago that I purchased Troy's gypsy moon cd off ebay as I only had his LP and thought it would be great to listen to in the car. As soon as I got the CD as started listening to it, I was returned to the 1990s and my fond memories of Troy Newman.

I thought to myself "I wonder what Troy Newman's up to now?" and googled him on the net. I was absolutely devasted to hear of his passing - I guess I got caught up with my own life and daily issues and not much was heard about Troy Newman.

I "fell in love" with the handsome Troy in the video "love gets rough" and when the chance to meet him in city Melbourne came up, I got time off work and raced in to meet him at a record store. And he certainly lived up to the image I had in my head - he was stunningly good looking, extremely talented at singing & playing guitar, but above all else, he came across as such a nice, kind person, taking the time to meet fans, really talk to people and seemed very humble and considerate. I can still remember every detail in meeting him, even after all this time!

I took out all my photos of him - Troy singing/playing guitar, meeting fans, etc, and my most treasured photo - of Troy and myself - his smile, his eyes, his arms around me - boy this photo has really blown me away, now realising that Troy has gone makes me so sad.

While listening to his CD this morning, I really became quite sad and teary - life really is so fragile isn't it? Was Troy really that unhappy and sad that he wanted to end it all? Or was it accidental like you said - maybe he was still a bit sick with Hepatitis and took something (or drank something) that he shouldn't have had whilst being ill still? It really is so sad that he is gone - Wendya, you were so lucky to have known him and from your stories, it sounds like he was a nice guy, which is great to know, as that's the impression I got too.

I would love for you to email any photos you have of Troy, as he was a part of my life (if only a small part), and his music is still as special today as it was back then. Also, if you have any other memories of Troy, it would be great to hear about them. He was a special talent and he will be remembered fondly. He really was like an angel in a lot of ways.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
    Kind regards, Lisa

    Troy Newman

Hi Troy Newman friends & fans.

I too heard the news some years ago & am still saddened. What a loss to his friends, family as well as Australia & the music industry.

I still carry a flame for every song on Gypsy Moon it was my rock for many years.

An artist like Troy doesnt come along too often these days, especially one that is so intune melodically & lyrically.

I am contemplating a documentary on Troy - if anyone can put me in touch with past band members, friends, family, photos, footage - would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm so sad.

I had no idea. I feel ashamed that he died over 10 years ago and I just didn't know. Like I should have felt him missing somehow. Troy was a very special artist and his music meant a lot to me when i was a wee adolescent. I don't mind admitting to a bit of a teenage crush! I used to adore the song 'God Only Knows' and i remember once convincing myself that I could just listen to it over and over, meditating instead of sleeping. Well, I fell asleep on about the 4th rotation, but it's still a great song :) OK, i feel better now after sharing that.

It's been a few years since I pulled the old CDs out and gave them a spin. I recall googling his name during a nostalgia attack maybe 3 years ago to see if he was still making music, and found nothing except a few used cds for sale on ebay, so i figured he'd just quit the scene.

What a shame, what a waste, and how very sad. You could just tell what a marvellous person he was, but so sensitive and seemingly very vulnerable. That damned 'City of Angels' has a lot to answer for.

    Thanks to everyone for sharing.
Someone should set up a tribute website, filled with his music and pictures.

I registered into this Website just to write my little bit about Troy. I was listening to his music and thought I'd jump on the net and look him up. I was a HUGE fan of his while his light had shone both briefly and brightly. Of course I knew he had died which had been a terrible tragedy. But I was APPALLED to find out just how little there was about him on the net. Like he had never even existed. 'Images' had nothing but one of his album covers and everything else was on this American Right To Lifer who just happens to have the same name.
When I clicked on the Album picture it went to a site which was requesting information on him cause they had his music for sale but really had no idea who he was. Such an insult to a young man who touched the music scene briefly but with impact and impression.
He actually went to school with one of my cousins and I went to watch him perform at Scarborough Beach - Western Australia. Along with the hundreds of screaming girlie fans who found him utterly adorable, just like me. He had good company in those who helped produce his music and so, it sounded fabulous. His lyrics sometimes were a bit tacky, but that happens when you are just starting out. But he was so cute and seemed real sweet.
Some of the entries on this forum were from people that knew him quite inimately. I wish they could do something about this lack of info about him on the net. He was a troubled boy, it's not his fault he died. He deserves to be remembered. He brought a lot of happiness and change to people's lives, like many musicians do. Those that knew him should have created a tribute site for him. If I had enough information and was an advanced internet/computer user, I would do it myself. I joined his fan club but I'm not sure if I still have the photos I received etc. If I can ever dig them up, I'll make sure they get on the net!!
LONG LIVE TROY. IN THE HEARTS AND MEMORIES OF HIS FANS, FRIENDS AND FAMILY AND FOR THOSE YET TO SEE HIM AND HEAR HIM PLAY.

I love Troy's music too. He was Australia's answer to Bryan Adams and more.
RIP Troy your music lives on forever.
