The code should be on some "security card" supplied with the car, most
usually found shoved in the manual.

Interestingly, I don't believe that the VT onwards radios actually have
their own code. When I bought my car 2nd hand I had them change the radio
over to a CD version. Same PIN code....which makes me think it's more to do
with the cars computer/VIN than anything else.

Try other Holden dealers. Paying a small fee is one thing but $22 is a bit
steep. I paid $30 to have a new key programmed and that involved more
time/effort than a quick computer search.

It isn't, except for VY/VZ where the BCM knows what the radio code should be
and it doesn't need to be programmed.
When the radio is swapped for whatever reason the BCM can be programmed to
    accept the new code.

    > Try other Holden dealers. Paying a small fee is one thing but $22 is a bit

He's got it for free from a Holden dealer, ina roundabout way :-)

I paid $30 to have a new key programmed and that involved more

Not really, programming a remote takes all of two minutes.

    Clockmeister - Thankyou so much!
Just out of interest is the code able to be derived from the VIN number by
some formula, or is it only available from Holdens database?

There is no formula since the radio's are outsourced and the PIN comes with
the radios. Lionheart, which is a kind of intranet for Holden dealers
accessed through the internet contains every little detail about the vehicle
by VIN number, including security information.

So what needs to happen if I pull out a 6 disc changer deck from a wreck and
put it in an exec? Get a holden dealer to program the BCM? Would showing
them the wreckers receipt be enough to convince them it's not stolen?

    Re: holden radio code

No, the radio will ask you for the PIN. You will need the correct PIN for
the new deck from the wrecker. Once you enter the number correctly into the
new radio, it will send a data message on a network bus to the BCM and the
BCM will store the new PIN.

It's a few bucks at best, and most places will do it for you for free if you
    ask nice.

Still, if you're a tight arse with an attitude, most will want to charge you
full bore retail or tell you to **** off.

It's only stupid to you because you're looking to get out of paying it. Ask
the moron you bought the car from where the code is, or try a couple of
dealerships and see if one can help you out. Being a single mum or not makes
no difference to the bloke at the dealership.
