Mate you get what you pay for. Wii is hardly 'cutting edge' technology, aside from the Wii-mote of course.

At $399 AUD / $250 USD Nintendo will be making money on each console they sell. In contrast Microsoft loses money with each unit, yes even at $650 RRP.

Whether you feel its 'money well spent' will depend on the games you like. With the Wii you'll get a fancy next gen controller, but dont be expecting next gen graphics. You'll need a PS3 of 360 for that (I cant wait for Lost Planet on the 360. Amazing).

BTW- buying a 2nd controller set up for the Wii could prove expensive when you ad the extra peripherals for the Wiimote. Fancy controllers arent cheap you know. Makes you wonder how much of your $399 went into the console hardware (ie your GCN v1.5)

??? What planet are you on? The Wii has never been about graphics, Nintendo have said that from the start. I'm buying it for it's innovation, I have my PC if I want fancy graphics!

I'm still mega hyped for the Wii, basically to justify the price you can say:
    $349 for the console + controller + cables/parts
    $50 for Wii Sports

    = $399

    I am excited.

Still reserving judgment (and a pre-order) till i get my hands on a demo station, however it is looking very positive.

I can't wait, I'm really hoping it's a hit. I'm waiting for the US release then seeing what is said about it, then I'll lay down my preorder.

Aren't the U.S getting it November 17 or thereabouts? I agree that if it is a smash in the U.S then i'll see what i can get from the pre-order deals.

    LAUNCH DATES

    North America - Nov 19th
    Japan - Dec 2nd
    Aus/NZ - Dec 7th
    Europe - Dec 8th

    LAUNCH PRICES (RRP)

    North America - US$250
    Japan - ¥25,000
    Australia - $399
    New Zealand - NZ$499
    UK - £179
    Europe - €249

    BASIC LAUNCH PACKAGE

    Wii console (white)
    Console stand
    Sensor bar and stand
    AV composite cable
    AC adaptor
    1x Wii Remote
    1x Nunchuk attachment

    Other interesting things:
    - Nintendo of Australia have stated the Wii will launch here with 25 titles (only 21 in the Americas)
    - VC games are purchased using 'Wii Points' which can be bought via credit card or with pre-paid cards - also some free VC game deals will exist with certain titles
    - The Wii's adjustable interface features 48 windows, or Wii Channels, each dedicated to a certain feature or game such as weather, news, VC games, Mii channel etc

I realise that. My comment was in response to your suggestion that the other consoles were 'overpriced'. Theyre not. 360 units are sold at a loss to Microsoft.

Innovation? Sure. But that doesnt mean the games are going to be any good. Not all innovation works out. If it did we'd all be wearing velcro instead of buttons.

Im definately in the 'wait and see' category. And at $399 I see the Wii as relatively overpriced in comparison to the 360. Add 2 extra controller set ups to the Wii (for all these Wii party games) and watch the price blow out. Wiimote plus add on = not cheap.

Hmmm, seems Nintendo woldwide is being greedy after all. looks as though wii sports and the controller is included everywhere.

Just doing the math based on the japan price of 25000 yen compared to that of other currencies,
the U.S is US$37 more expensive,
    the U.K pays a whooping £67 extra,
    Europe is €82 more,
NZ are stung an extra NZ$178,
    and we pay AU$117 extra.

f***ing game companies, they can't justify those price differences just for converting a console into a foriegn language.

exchange rates are never the best thing to go on...

having studied business and now having it as a hobby the best way to judge whether or not we are getting ripped off is called "The Big Mac Rule". Compare big mac prices in the different countries instead of exchange rates.

I wasn't saying they should follow them to a T, but the differences are way too much for essentially the same thing.
Sure, a little bit for advertising, some extra development to convert the console etc. and the cost of living in certain countries, but you can't tell me by looking at the prices that you think the difference is resonable?

Yes, but 360 is $649 with no game. Wii is $399 with a game.

True. But with the 360 you get a next gen system (in terms of grunt) & a hard drive. The Wii package gets me a tarted up GCN, a sports / party game Id never buy seperately and a very expensive peripheral.

And if you plan to play party games on your Wii like in all those promo clips, you'll want another 3 wiimote set ups. Now Im not sure of the pricing here, but in the USA a Wiimote is RRP $40 USD and the nunchuck attachement is $20 USD. That doesnt work out cheap.

To me Nintendo has essentially re-released the GCN, added a peripheral and wacked a $399 price tag on it. People are screaming 'value for money' but when you look at what youre getting for your dosh - Im not so sure.

I too want to play Wii games (eventually). But @ $399 Im very happy to wait.

Anyone that hasnt should dowbload the 1UP SHOW 'What Wii think" episode. Has them at a Wii party. Opinions follow.

I read the Japan release wasn't going to include the game. It was in a link posted here a few days ago I think.

    * Goes off to find it *

EDIT: you should really read your own links, Linton

So you are basically after graphics then aren't you. Hell 90% of the time, the game is better on PC gameplay and graphics wise so i wouldn't waste my money on a 360 or a PS3 until they came down to resonable prices.

I hope you realise that not every single game on the wii is party/multiplayer If you want to play with your friends on the 360 or the PS3 - guess what - you are going to have to buy extra controlers to play multiplayer.. These controllers work out at just a little cheaper then the wii remotes because the wiimote is actually going for $32 US and the nunchuck for $15 US. Lets break down the prices:

    X-BOX 360 (Aus dollars)

    Premium Pack - $665.95
    Joytech NEO Se Advance Controller x 3 - $149.85

    Total = $815

Nintendo Wii (Current Conversion from Us Dollars to Aus Dollars)

    Wii Pack - $399
    Nunchuck and wiimotes x3 - $186

    Total = $585

Heck - I know what i am getting.

true it is not fully justified... i think Nintendo got slightly greedy.

The flipside is... i am SURE the R&D on that controller cost a bucketload

Bah, t was an early gamespot link (who try to get the jump on everyone else, and don't let the truth get in their way), what do you expect. I'd be paying more attention to the official Nintendo newsletter quotes now than anything else.
