    Ancient gear question

Making up a "brainbox" for a mate who wants to get his family on line, but can't afford a new, flash computer. The board I've literally scrounged up is an old socket seven with 4 PCI slots and three ISA. It will take four SIMM slabs or one SDRAM unit. Its designation is: "SD-P5VA, VER. 1.0." It looks like an ASUS, but I can't find it listed on the ASUS site. I want to upgrade the bios if there is an upgrade availiable. Anyone out there have any ideas about the origin of this bit of ancient gear? Oh, it has an Intel chip set.

    aincient?

gee it soulds like my new computer
if there is a cpu on board , add some memory and a video card and see if you can get the bios string and go to "wim's bios page"
if it doesn't or you can't can you find enough info on it to set it up
    like tiny silk screening or
perhaps if you let us here have the rest of what is written on the board it might help find out what it is.
one of the big things does it or doesn't it
support the intel p 233 and other " split voltage
    cpu's" or not
if it doesen't there is no way to make it
fast enough to really be " comfortable" on the www.

I think it is actually made by AZZA but I can't find anything on it on their (dead slow) Taiwan site at www.azza.com.tw

Brad and Walter... Many thanks for the help. I'll check out the sites Brad recommented as soon as I finish here at EYO.

I've actually got the thing up and running, so finding the bios string is no problem. I've got a Cyrix PR 200+ that I've had lying around installed on the mumboard. The big problem is the sucker
will only take one stick of SDRAM and PC 66 at that! As I only have 32mb sticks of the older PC 66, I can't get the thing to work as fast as I would like (it definitely won't take PC 133). Do they make a card for SDRAM that would allow one to double the sockets? I remember they had something like this for the older SIMMs.

    Thanks, Rob.

Angry I have been given one too

THis board is one that has little support although it clearly is out there

I have been looking for the last two days and have had little success of locating a manual for garrenteed correct voltage settings.

The board came with a cyrix 686 PR200 socket 7 chip that had been baked to the point of constant seizures due to fan failure and unknowledgeable operators.

I have put an intel 166 chip in it and this has a different voltage needed for smooth operation also I have put in a Voodoo 3 2000 Vga card.

Please if any one has the info I need send me a link.

Kingbasher; I've got a manual and a board (the original that this thread concerned). If you want to cover postage, handling, etc. you can have the lot. I'm in "Oz" (Australia).

    Seeking SD-P5VA motherboard

    15th February 2006

    Hi

I have an SD-P5VA motherboard and I would like to know if it supports
dual voltage socket 7 CPUs such as the Intel P166mmx and P200mmx
or is it restricted to single 3.0v core cpus such as the intel P166(non mmx)
    and P200(non mms)

The board came with an IBM 6x86L PR166+ whch is a dual voltage cpu
(2.8V core) and it runs extremely hot.

I would also like some information on the header configurations.

    The azza site is gone.
This board was marketed as azza and also as supergalaxy orginally.

    All assistance gratefully accepted.

    Regards

    Chris

PS. I would chuck the board and use another but I have a specific
requirement to run three ISA cards + 2 PCI cards. One of the ISA
cards is memory mapped and puts a restriction on the RAM at 8 MB.

If it supports the dual-voltage IBM 6x86L PR166+, then it should also be capable of handling the Pentium MMX chips. Just to make sure, I did a quick Google search and found the following:

Translation from Portuguese: "I have a Pentium MMX 233, SuperGalaxy SD-P5VA motherboard, blah blah blah, my questions are as follows..." In other words, you can run the Pentium MMX in these motherboards, but only if you live in Brazil.

The Pentium MMX 166, 200, and 233 (desktop versions) all ran at 2.8V core voltage, so that should save you the trouble of having to change the voltage jumpers. Unfortunately, I do not have any info on which jumpers or headers control what on that board.

Motherboards from that era typically had a range of multipliers of 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0. Sometimes the 1.0 setting was not there. "1.5" would actually double as "3.5" when the Pentium MMX 233 was plugged in.

Sorry I cannot be more specific, but I hope this helps.

    Uff!

I got so excited that the keyboard got carried away.

Brad was very cool and an interesting person. I hope he's doing well.

    Sorry 'bout that.

Make that three. I thought the same thing and I even started the original post back in 2002!

    Brad, you out there?
