    write protection

I am trying to copy my documents onto a CD. I have a brand-new CD-RW in the
drive. I get an error message: "Cannot create or replace XXXXXX: The disk
is write-protected. Remove the write-protection or use another disk." I have
tried it with another brand-new disk and got the same message. How do I
    remove write-protection?

    Try this :
Right click CD-Drive in My Computer
    Properties
    Recording tab
    Tick "Enable Recording.."
    Click OK

    RE: write protection

I researched your issue for a bit here and I have a few possibilities:

    1. Attempt to erase the CDRW with whatever software you are using to burn.
If that is successful attempt to write the data again.
    2. Create a text file and put some data into it like "hello world" and
attempt to save that to the CDRW. If it goes through whatever you are
    attempting to burn is locked.
    3. Digital Rights Management or DRM may be blocking your drive. Are your
documents PDF's that were purchased? Or are they protected documents in any
way? If this is the case DRM management software will not allow you to burn
them. If this is the case step 2 should have allowed you to burn the text
    file to disk.

If you are still having issues please post back what burning software you
are trying to use, what type of document you are attempting to burn, and the
    results of the above tests.

It would be helpful if you mentioned what type of software you are using to
    burn your CD

    RE: write protection

I am using Roxio. I followed your instructions:

    1. At the risk of sounding really dumb...I have looked through all the the
drop-down menus, plus everything on the window, and I can't find an "erase
    this disk."

    2. Did the "hello world" thing...I can save it to my computer, but not to
    the CD.

    3. The documents I want to save are my own personal documents that I have
    written.

Did you try to save your document directly to the cd? If so, try
saving it to the hard disk first, and then burn the saved file from
    the disk to cd.
