ipod no longer recognized on computer after service pack download

Friends:

I've tried downloading new itunes version, different ports, everything i can
think of but nothing seems to work. the service pack download has ruined my
ipod. Any suggestions?

All of the sudden when I connect my ipod to my laptop it says unknown
device-not recognized.... I've tried everything, it worked fine before. Does
anybody know whats the problem?
