It does. I use the optical digital audio out, and it also has a coaxial DA out too. From the manual:

"A digital multi-channel connection provides the best sound quality. For this you need a multi-channel audio/video receiver that supports one or more of the audio formats supported by your DVD player such as MPEG 2, Dolby Digital and DTS. Check the receiver and the logos on the front of the receiver."

"Six Channel Digital Surround Sound via a digital connection can only be obtained if your receiver is equipped with a Digital Multi-channel decoder."

Hi there, I've just bought this new model and actually having some issues with the USB port.
When conneting a pendrive to it and doing the upscaling to 720P or 1080i to watch some pictures, sometimes the player just hook up or the pictures are not showing properly (not all of them, just a ramdom thing...odd...)...this is not happening when watching on a 420P resolution.
I've already exchanged the player twice with the same result...
    Any ideas?!
    Thanks in advance..

CONFIRMING USB 2 DOES WORK ON LG DV298H Australian Version (bought from Dick Smiths)

Just to confirm that the LG DV298H Player with "USB Plus" DOES work with USB 1.1 & 2 FLASH DRIVE STICKS. I currently use the Toshiba 8GB USB Flash DRive & as long as the file is in the right type of format it will play no problem.

The startup takes awhile though, depending on how much stuff is on your USB Flash Drive. I have about 6 compressed movies on my 8GB Toshiba Flash Drive & it takes about 30secs to initiate.

What you need to do is once you connect the USB Flash Drive to the LG DV298H, you must change to AV2 (I have my LG connected to a Panasonic LCD TV). Once this is done then click the "USB" button on the LG remote & this will initiate the Toshiba 8GB Flash Drive (it will actually flash on & off). Wait about 30sec up to sometimes 5mins (depending on how many files you have on the Flash Drive). Then the screen will show a list of all the readable files on your USB Flash Drive. Select which Movie file you'd like (also a hint is to name the movie files before putting them on the USB Stick to as short as possible, as it won't show a large amount of text & also may make reading the file difficult) & you will be able to watch what you've got on the USB Flash Drive without any problems (I have not noticed ANY skipping or stopping at all).

I have the AUSTRALIAN VERSION LG DV298H with "DVD PLUS".

The player 'supports' USB 2, but only at USB 1.1 speeds.

As per my earlier post, the player can't keep up with files that need a faster-than-USB-1.1 bandwidth to play smoothly.

That said, it does a decent job of playing the stuff that only needs USB 1.1 speeds.
