In my personal experience Tramadol isn't a great drug and can have some nasty side effects so I'd stick with the Panadeine Forte if I was you.
Thats what I have been taking D. What is this Tramadol drug? Someone suggested I try Mersondyl (not sure if this is the correct spelling) but I think it's time for me to go and have a good chat with my local Pharmacist.
My medicine cabinet used to only have a old out of date box of Aspirins in it...now it's full of damn pills.
I even try to reach a certain pain threshold before I take anything (like being unable to sleep by 4 am and am sitting ripping my hair out)

I'm no medico but I know lots of people who take Mersyndol, they mainly suffer with migraines and PMS/PMT and say it's the best over-the-counter medication It also comes in a Forte variety too but you might need a script for that (help required here Diabolical or anyone else who might know more about these things) - like I said I don't know that much about Mersyndol but I did find this out by typing "Mersyndol pain relief" into Google

Mersyndol (Mercyndol, Mercindol) is an extra strong pain relief medication designed to have an analgesic calmative effect. Mersyndol contains codeine phosphate 9.75mg, paracetamol 450mg, doxylamine succinate 5mg.

Mersyndol brings fast, effective temporary relief of strong pain and discomfort associated with headache, migraine, backache, arthritis, tension headache, muscle pain, period pain, cold & flu, dental pain, pain associated with trauma or surgery.

The antipyretic properties of Mersyndol may be useful for treating fevers. Mersyndol is also a suitable alternative if you cannot tolerate aspirin. Mersyndol's calmative properties maybe especially useful in the treatment of tension headaches and migraines.

The antipyretic properties of Mersyndol may be useful for controlling fever.

Mersyndol contains no aspirin or aspirin-like ingredients and is mild to the stomach.

Mersyndol (mersindol, mercyndol) preparation is for the relief of minor and temporary ailments and should be used as directed.

Prolonged use of Mersyndol without medical supervision may be harmful. Children should not be given Mersyndol for over 48 hours without seeking medical advice. Do not take these medicines if you are taking aspirin or any other pain-relieving medication. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, asthmatic, or if you suffer from kidney, heart or liver problems, or if you are taking any other regular medical treatment. If symptoms persist or worsen, or if new symptoms occur, consult your doctor. CAN CAUSE SEDATION - USE WITH CAUTION

You should be taking them regularly, not waiting for the pain to get unbearable before using them, otherwise you're not going to get on top of the inflammation and pain. How often and for how long did your doctor prescribe them? Don't let the pharmacist talk you into topical anti-inflammatory creams...they suck. Have you tried heat packs on it?

Our usual choice of analgesia, stronger than over the counter meds, is panadeine forte and occasionally tramadol. Both have the same effect on pain but tramadol can cause nasty side effects like severe nausea and abdominal discomfort. Tramadol has no codeine in it so it's handy for people with codeine allergies. Obviously it depends on the person as to how it effects them, they might do the trick for you, so I guess you'll only find out by trying.

One other tip Tues...with all this codeine you're pumping into you make sure you take some regular laxatives or loads of fibre or else you're gonna have a whole other set of problems

I have been taking Nurofen morning and afternoon, and 2 panadene forte at night-as Dr prescribed, but the last few nights I have tried 3 forte at night just to get some sleep...doesn't ease the pain and doesn't help me sleep.Have tried heat packs, ice packs, counting sheep, counting ducks....watching a boring movie, I get about 2 hours max before I wake up feeling like I have a knife thrust into my knee.
Was hoping for a miracle cure I guess after the Cortisone injection yesterday.

You're not taking enough drugs. You can take neurofen every 4 hours (not exceeding 6 tablets in a 24 hour period) and panadeine forte every 4-6 hours (not exceeding 8 tablets in a 24 hour period). I'd suggest taking 2 panadeine forte and 2 neurofen tablets in one hit, then alternate doses of panadeine forte (2 tabs) and neurofen (2 tabs) every 4 hours. Obviously this shouldn't be done for a prolonged period of time but if it gets your pain under control within 48 hours you can start reducing your dose. If the pain isn't improving after 48 hours when taking those amounts then you need to see your doctor again. If you notice any swelling or redness over your knee or you get fevers then you definitely need to see your doctor.

I took a combined dose last night D....feel great as I've had the first full 8 hours sleep for months
(just realised my neurofen are called neurofen plus! more codeine)

Excellent, glad to hear it. I wouldn't recommend you using the panadeine forte and the nurofen plus together though. They both contain codeine and the panadeine forte alone has the recommended daily allowance for a 24 hour period, assuming you're taking the 8 a day. Codeine can be addictive so I'd suggest limiting your amounts by taking just nurofen while you're on the panadeine forte. If sleep is a big problem then only take the nurofen plus and panadeine forte combination before going to sleep. Hopefully you're on the mend

Careful there tuesday. We wouldn't want you addicted to the drugs as well as the alcohol.

Hope the knee feels better soon.

I take mersyndol when I travel..

Its kinda like panadol forte. It will make you drowsy though, can get over counter but they take your name and ID to put you on the drug register... making sure you aren't making anything with it...

Ohh and it's cheap... real cheap.

I only wish my aches and pains were as slight as every ones here,
I had an accident at work in 2003 where i walked into a pipe at head height
giving me a bad case of whip lash so i thought.
Since then ive had 6 facid blocks in my neck under flouro guidance and been in hospital for a manipulation under antisecia, ive had physio ,maniputive therapy and acupuncture.

The specialists wanted to fuse my neck so it couldn't move ,but couldn't promise it would stop the pain.
Seen about 20 doctors for insurance companies, been to the district court for 5 days and won my case in dec 2006 now they have appealed so i'm off to the supreme court at the end of the month.
