i bought a OCZ 60GB SSD today for $319. mainly for the purpose of running a 64-bit OS on it. works a treat. the guy serving me at the shop sent me an email with a link to some firmware updates for the drive, but seems a little more complicated than i could be bothered figuring out. it works great, im happy so stuff it. wise more, or should i reconsider?

    Hello leroy.
Congrats on your buy - I'd love one myself. Having a faster HDD is a great improvement to ANY computer system nowadays, as the slowest components in modern PCs ARE the hardrives.

If the HDD is working fine - dont flash it, theres no need to.
Firmware flashing comes in when your drive has a quirk - if you've found none, then thats fine.

Course - there are instances where new BIOSes offer performance increases, but if you've never attempted this before - I would discourage this.

Run HDtune and post your results eh? ^_^

Where's the "That was silly-cheesy" smiley?

Get ready for it. Here comes something really, really cheesy:
"I wonder if he was trying to get on something or just trying to get off in general?"
That deserves extra points for the lame factor too.

Apple introduces its new Ipad... A big iphone.

    http://www.apple.com/au/ipad/

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_iPad

So, who's going to shell out 1000 for a big screened iphone with no camera? Anyone actually think its the magical setp between a notebook and a smartphone?
(IMO there is no step... the notebook is the intermediate step between a smart phone and a PC, they just need to make better laptops)

I would have preferred they did a good netbook, like a 9" version of a Macbook Air, that would have been a lot more appealing than this thing
Got caught out by my boss sleeping under my desk at work, told him I was planking, I've now been promoted to head of social media

I already have one, I use it when traveling, I'd like a higher spec one though and am thinking about upgrading so would have considered an Apple if they had something suitable, mine is the original 7" ASUS EeePC, has come in handy quite a few times but wouldn't mind something a bit more capable as realistically it has been replaced by my iPhone in what it can do

That was going to be my 2nd queston... What can your netbook do that your smart phone can't.

I can't imagine a legitimate reason to buy a netbook (at least a mini one) for an individual.

If a corporation can manage to house its IT infrastructure within its Intranet, and only need PC's to act as thin client, then i see a reason to buy them (not mini ones, just cheap ones).

I was going to buy a Samsung Q1 a while ago. But couldn't find a reason why i should buy it other than the fact that its cool.

it certainly got a lot more use before I had my iPhone, for times when I do need a computer now I would like something a little more capable yet still compact, the more you travel the less weight you want to carry, a higher spec netbook could do most things that I would normally use my laptop for and be a lot easier to carry around so essentially I would be looking at a netbook as a laptop replacement this time

Interesting discussion, I recently got a SmartQ V7 (probably manufactured in Shenzhen China) and use it mainly as a toy. It does nearly everything I want while sitting and watching TV. I new going in it wouldn't support youtube flash videos. I had considered a netbook, but then I already have a 12" laptop that does about everything.

One thing I miss most with the smartq is the ability to print. My question here is, do the iphone, ipads etc. print?

I could have got a viliv that runs WinXP and printing wouldn't be a problem but at more than three times the cost, I wasn't ready to go there.

out of the box they don't but there are apps that enable them to send to printers

Thanks, it's a similar problem with the smartq. I've read rumor of printing with the smartq, need to do a google search.
