    Cannot Access BIOS

A problem has suddenly developed in which I am unable to access BIOS or get into Windows Safe Mode.
I started when I was burning a video DVD -R in which about halfway through
the burn, the DVD ejected and an error message saying there was a burn failure.
Only half the the DVD had any video but no problem with DVD RW discs.
Then the DVD and CD drive disappeared from Windows Explorer, but the DVD drive still appeared in the Control Panel and still worked.
Another time, my secondary harddrive disappeared completely but I have it back now.
I then tried to get into BIOS but when I pressed the DEL button, nothing happened and likewise with Windows Safe Mode. I tried shutting the system down abnormally which gave me several options when re-booting but the up and
down buttons didn't work so had to wait for auto re-boot.
I have USB keyboard and the mob is Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939.
I don't know if the burning problem is related or a separate issue.

    Sounds like your keyboard's broken...

There is no problem with keyboard within Windows applications, with all keys working including the Delete key.

There's nothing else that can go wrong at that point.

The only other thing that can be happening is that for some unknown reason (based on the manufacturing date of the motherboard) that the motherboard can't see the USB keyboard as an actual keyboard. That used to be the case when we were using PS/2 connectors for keyboards. The bios is firmware and generally can't be damaged, so if the bios can't see your keyboard, then there's something wrong with your keyboard (or you need to try a PS/2 keyboard).

Its the ones on the left.

I am thinking more on those lines too, but it doesn't explain why I lost some drives temporarily this made me suspect there was something wrong with BIOS
but that cannot be the case as everything works fine.
If it is the keyboard then I shall be making a claim under warranty as I have only had it for about 4 months.

I have solved my problem, I swapped USB plug over from USB PCI card to
on board USB. Don't know why the PCI USB stopped working for keyboard since it is working for everything else.

that would make a lot of sense, the onboard USB would be addressable by the BIOS, an add in card less likely

Yes but I have always used the card for the keyboard until the problems started. That is the puzzling issue. Anyway I shall stay with the on board USB
    for the keyboard.

could be a recent update to something else has caused this, could be an I/O conflict

I doubt the USB ports ever worked with the keyboard without drivers (at that stage in the boot). You just never noticed.

I'd be inclined to think the same but was just accepting his word that it had worked previously
