    Behind the times

Is Australia behind the times with Pay-TV?

looking at what is on offer in the UK and NZ it sure looks like we are
still in the dark ages with Pay TV in Aust.

will we ever "catch" up with the rest of the world.

With the UK situation its all about numbers of subscribers, We have 20
    Millon
people, The greater London Council has 28 Millon people,, Care to think
what would happen if your local Council ran the Country,
More population means more subscribers, means more capital to invest in
programming, The costs are the same regardless of wether your transmitting
    to
    5 Millon or 5000
the New Zealand situation is close to ours, with a small population, but
they only offer a few channels, and costs are about the same,, Also there
encription system is very secure, So if you want there programming , you
    pay for it...

I don't think I metioned the costs in my post. I was refering to the
    technology etc.

as far as costs are at the moment, yes I agree with you regarding the
population of Aust compared to UK and this will reflect on what we
    have to pay.

Anyway who wants hundreds of channels to choose from, takes too long
to surf thyrough them all. I would be quite happy with just 50
    channels as the "basic" level.

BTW, this was not a complaint just an observation.

Get rid of Telstra things would be better. They like to keep Australia
behind the rest of the world.

That is a VERY relevant point.
Telstra kept this country in the dark ages for years and they still don't
    get it.

When On special, but usually anywhere between $150-$399

    > Monthly Subscription - $55.54

correct but above isn't startup package, remove Sky Sport 1 and 2 and drop
the price to $41.40 NZ per month for the startup package, its very weak no
sports or movies... and most of the rest are radio

to add sky movies+sky movie max+mgm+TCM its $60.03 per month
to add Sky Sports 1+2 and your up to $72.17!!
