I'm not a follower of V8 Supercars myself, so I'm not up to speed on
all the possible ramifications of this news. All I do know is, I found
the V8 Supercars pretty goddamned boring (same with Bathurst these
days as well). If Nissan can inject some variety and be competitive
then personally I'd probably find that quite an improvement.

Absolutely......Toyota is big in the states at Daytona etc. Need much more
variety here in Oz.

Nissan? So they're bringing George Fury back with his Bluebird? Can we
also order some Minis, Volvos, RX-7s and BMWs and shit? Now we're
talking!

Not before time. V8 Supercar racing has got to be the most boring class
in the world next to Formula 1.
A return the the "production" racing rules of the 1980's would be the
best choice in my opinion.

wont happen as next year is the start of the "silhouette" classification, in
other words it is a clone of nascar, all cars are the same shape with the
only dif being the paint and name badge, I believe there will be some
difference in the allowed engines and in that regard Nissan could possibly
shit all over the offerings of Ford or GM.

Big deal, V8 Supercars stopped being good the day the cars stopped being
racing versions of the road cars and became identical chassis setups with
slightly different body-shells on top.
Although its fitting that Nissan, the car company that probably had more to
do with "ruining" V8 Supercars/Touring Car Racing than any other (it was
the controversial win by a Nissan Skyline GT-R at the 1992 Bathurst race
that lead to the creation of V8 Supercars in the first place and the first
moves away from racing versions of the road cars) is the first to join the
sport under the new rules (no doubt with a car that looks nothing like any
Nissan the company has ever produced)

Dominance won't be allowed to happen as past history of the series has
shown. The way it's headed there will be Optus/Telstra/whatever cars
eventually. No relevance to anything now, and hasn't been for a very
long time. Waste of time trying to tell younger fans as they have no
knowledge, or care, for past real racing with real individual makes.

For a crystal ball into what will happen in this series I point you in
the direction of nascar. Control everything and boring as ****. The
only difference in the cars will be the stickers on them and the nut
behind the wheel.

I really should read the whole thread before posting. I can't agree more.
My idea for a race series:-
Run what you brung.
Le Mans start
Under 100kms of racing
Crashing into other cars encouraged
Speedways probably the closest to it and I have to say it is the only
motorsport I will pay to see.

Depends on what's allowed, if the rule is a 5.0lt pushrod V8 then the
locals have a big experience advantage, it would be a very different
story if any engine was allowed, maybe they will restrict HP.

My understanding is that the current V8 is dead. Ford will have to run a
self sourced production V8, same for Holden and same for Nissan etc, will be
some restrictions as to capacity but potentially you could run a smaller 8
than everyone else if you so desired.
Toyota won't enter as the boss here thinks beige cardigans are the height of
fashion and selling cars as boring and reliable is the way to go. there was
some talk of getting Mercedes involved but they pulled back a little as the
market here is small and the global dollar for them was looking grim due to
the American bankers raping the planet.

I honestly doubt that any "Nissan" race car will be anything more than a
lookalike bodyshell on the same generic chassis / driveline combo that is
shared between the alleged Fords and Holdens.
Total ****ing farce. Tony Cockhead should have had his ability to breed
removed in 1993.

More than likely, but the interesting bit (if you could call it that)
would be what engine it will run.

That's going to totally **** Ford in the arse then, as their current V8
makes as much power as a blender, and is as reliable a a 2 dollar shop
toaster.

He seems to have got it right if sales figures are any indication, they
are the market leaders by a big margin.
