    Datsun 12OY nostalgi

    I just sighted a fully-restored 120Y, looked like new.

Even the leaf springs had been sandblasted.

Took me back to my childhood. My babysitter had one.

She was a pretty young thing married to a millionaire.

Turns out she couldn't have kids, she started looking after

    other people`s.

Anyway, coz her tycoon hubby bought her a 120Y, I thought

they were cool back then. Well, at least it was RWD!

My bro had a 120y sedan. He ran up 240,000ks driving around Sy and to
work which was a 80 k ,round trip. The only serious prob it had was
body rust from parking at work about 100m from Botany bay. Indeed rust
became such an issue for those parking there, people would devote one
car only, leaving the better 2nd car for everything else. In the 10 or
so years he had it, it had 3 fairly major rust repairs. The engine was
basically untouched, but the 4 on the floor box needed bearing
    replacements a couple of times.

Personally I liked the Datto 1200 better, but the 120y coupe was one
car I intended to get one day,..but it didnt happen :-(

I had a couple of 1200, I really liked them. I wrote the better of the two
    off though, unfortunately.

I quite like the 1200 coupe too, but the 120Y coupe was a hideous thing,
even worse than the 120Y. I suppose taste is a subjective thing though.

Drugs like the 120 why were cheap too.
Only car at the time you could lean/fart on and it would dent.

Heh, I learnt to drive (on the road) in one of those things. They were the
school car of choice in the early 80s.

What driving school did you learn with?

Those things were so light, they were dangerous on the road.

Amazing what adding a Hyclone to an old 120Y will do.

It has always been an annoyance to me that Emperor Hirohito died
    without apologising for the 120Y.

His loss of face over the 120y was more than likely the cause of his death!

Wanneroo Driving School, an older English guy called Alf. A mate of mine
used to have one as a school car as well, he taught driving and riding.

Heh, they weren't that bad. Try riding home from work on a Suzuki X7 in a
    thunderstorm.
