Need help with upgrade of SD card reader to read SDHC cards

I have read some of the suggestions for upgrading an XP pc to read
SDHC cards and downloaded Microsofts upgrade KB934428-v3-x86-ENU.exe.

I have SP3 installed but when I install the upgrade it tells me there
is no need to install the upgrade.

Is there a way to upgrade a SANDISK SecureMate MM SD external drive to
read SDHC cards? I have tried some of the suggestions online but so
    far none seem to work.

Would appreciate any input or suggestions.

    Mary

Unless there's a firmware update for your reader available from SanDisk,
it's really unlikely that you'll ever be able to read or write SDHC
    cards in your old device.

Buy a new one; they're cheap.

You'll have to buy a new card reader. It has nothing to do with drivers
or what version of Windows you're using.
