    Amazing!

This is the third ad I've seen for a Loewe in the last six months and every
one has had their picture tube replaced. Maybe they are not as good as
    everyone says?

Or are you having trouble flogging it....:-)

and Loewe are un-realible, I know 7 people with loewe, and 5 of them had to
get them repaired within 4 years, either EHT transformer or tube replaced. I
was the unlucky one who's warranty run out :(

I know a dozen people with LOEWE TV's. One has been cooked because
the person who installed it didn't read TFM about leaving a
ventilation gap. My guess is that that is fairly common.

My LOEWE has been going well for almost 10 years. The only problem
is a dodgy S-video socket on the front. Had it replaced but the
replacement part is just as bad.

    Re: Loewe CT1170 4:3 70 cm TV...

To be honest with you guys this tv served me well. I actually managed to get
them to replace the tube out of warranty by their own diagnosis that the
prob i was experirencing was being caused by either the tube or another
component. They chose to go tube first, but it ended up not being the tube,
so i got a new tube for nothing. They replaced the other part and all was
good. Apart for that ive had little issue with it. Only reason ive been
trying the sell is because i have a SD STB and have been lucky enough to
have a widescreen teev loaned to me from a family member who is currently
overseas. Prefer to watch all my content in widescreen rather than
letterbox. So ultimately i have no interest in going back to a 4:3 hence why
i am selling. I think what people are talking about here is not uncommon to
any other brand. Every brand has its fair share of issues.

The picture quality is fine - but I also had to have the tube replaced after
a few years. (I had a Calida) Recently its crapped out again, so I wont be
    getting it fixed this time.

Yep that;s want I;ve got, calida, but the other set's that have broken down
    were, ergo's, profil's, ct1170. I mean 100Hz is a great picture and at the
time there were no jap tv;s with 100Hz, so I had little choice. I am happy
with the pic quality, but reliability is another story. I even tried
emailing the guy who imports them into Australia, Alex Encel from Inter
Dynamics, but he doesn't want to reply :(.

I have owned two Loewe TVs
1st was a 4:3 Arcada that I passed down to my son and then "Upgraded" to a
16:9 Planus which I still have.
The Arcada has had the power supply replaced 4 times under warrantee. (Its
now out of warrantee for a year and seems to be ok.)
The Planus has had no problems

I've owned a Telefunken TV (German, not the more recent Chinese ones) for
just on 6 years, whichis very similar to the equivalent Loewes and Grundigs.

When I bought it, I had some reservations about its potential long-term
durability in a humid climate, but it's never missed a beat.

I thought I might eventually replace it with a Loewe, but after reading this
thread (and especially considering the relatively small number of Loewes
    sold in Australia), no way!

    Thanks for the info .....

I totally disagree with all the negative comments made about Loewe tvs.

Our CT1170 has served us extremely well for the past 6 or 7 years.

The picture clarity, most notably the colour, is totally unlike any of the ricebox p.o.s. brands.

The sturdiness of the remote, and just the general build quality epitomises the level of engineering to which manufacturers like Sony, Samsung, LG, Philips etc. have still yet to achieve (hello gamma and colour ranges more suited to Hello Kitty?)

And of cause the SCART interconnectivity for anyone who owns other European SVHS or DVD players etc.

We too will be upgrading to a 1080i WS set soon, however I can say that unless there is an equivalent Grundig or the like, we wouldnt be looking far from Loewe sets.

All electronic brands have bad batches & there has been a change to cheaper
less sturdy equipment in recent decades.

The future is with LCD (& other) panels and projectors. After all a display
is just there to display whatever video or internet signal it receives.

Much audio visual development now comes from Asia & name calling will not
    change that.

See also the siory about Loewe stopping CRTs (probably like all sooner than
    later).

The useful life of LCD displays is still nowhere near that of a CRT.

the picture tube in my CT1170 died the other day. All i get is a black screen. Have only had the thing for 4.5 years. Very very disappointed.
Anyone have any idea how much it'll costs to get it fixed?

just because it goes black does not mean it is necessarily or even
probably "the picture tube". It may be relatively inexpensive to have
    fixed.

I have owned a couple of loewe TVs over the years and they are notorious for
    bad power supply.
Rather expensive to get fixed if not covered by warrantee.

CT1170 LOEWE TV is getting black too

    Dear any CT1170 users

I bought my CT1170 in UK. I bought it because it was the only one with all tuners e.g. PAL, PAL-I, SECAM,... and I though with LOEWE it would be good for more thn 10 years....
After just above 5 years (yesterday night) It suddently got black screen too. As soon as I turned on TV, I can see a colour image that's is fading within 3-5 sec then totally black. Sounds however remains ok.

Does anyone knows what could be the problem (how to fix it) and more importantly how much is expected to fix the CT1170 with black screen?

    Thanks for your help

the fade to black problem (as described above) is exactly what I had, with my contur 1470. I rang the repairers today and they confirmed it was the neck board, and not the picture tube. It's costing me AUS$145 to fix, which is a lot cheaper than I'd expected. Hopefully it'll last.
