that falls out of your mouth, it's all just bullshit, isnt it Catspiss?

Instead of running around at Ozliars feet, maybe you could grow some

find I respond to 1 or 2 percent of your posts - at best. "

    57 posts remember..:)

"You stated that you would have rearended the Getz "
still waiting for info on that too

Have you figured out how to

    a: count
    b: use thunderbird
    c: read headers

.... yet, you ****ing useless sack of lying shit?

A bit of googling suggests that the lever was to lock the free
wheeling out, so that engine braking was still an option, but the
normal situation was an overrun clutch (like a free wheeling bicycle
    hub)....
    http://www.diynot.com/forums/automot....328269/page-2

In that sense it was automatic, unlike the free wheeling devices used
on some British cars which completely disengaged the transmission.

DKW, and I think Trabant, also had automatic free wheeling of some
description but it may not have been the same as Saab's system.

You could select it either on or off in the two stroke SAABs. For
clarity, I didn't mean that you had to continue to apply the lever to
have it on (or off). It was just set to one position or another. As
your source says, it was usual to have freewheel on, more for ease of
gear change than anything else (particularly for non-synchro boxes).
Though personally, I can't say that I've ever found it difficult to do
    gear changes without a freewheel.

I suppose so, but the automatic freewheel in the SAAB context was a
four stroke only application, where freewheel was automatically
engaged when there was no pressure on the accelerator.

    >DKW, and I think Trabant, also had automatic free wheeling of some
    >description but it may not have been the same as Saab's system.

The Trabi automatically selected freewheel whenever you were in top
(fourth) gear. So if you were using 1 to 3 for engine braking, there
was no freewheel, and you had to blip the throttle every now and then
for lubrication. I've not driven a DKW, but my understanding was that
it used a control like the Rover system.
