A friend in America sent me a Google Chromecast. It is a device that
looks like an oversize USB stick. It has an HDMI connector and a micro
USB socket. You plug it into an HDMI socket on the TV and connect to a
USB power supply. There is a fairly involved setup procedure to get it
connected to your WiFi router, it was more complicated with mine as my
friend had already connected it to his WiFi, and I had to reset it.
It works with the Chrome browser on Windows, Mac or Android (not IOS
yet). You load a browser extension which puts an icon on the browser, if
you click the icon whatever the browser is displaying "Casts" to the TV
screen. It works great with ABC iView, you get the program full screen
on the TV, the same with YouTube. I haven't tried anything else yet, in
the States you can use it with Netflix, but of course we don't get that
You can use it with Youtube from an iPad too.
Its a cheap toy, $35 in the states, it does what it does well, although
what it does is quite limited at the moment.
