Sorry this has been done to death but I just have to vent steam!
How the ^%#%!! does Canon justify charging $499 for a lens that sells for
$125US (28mm F2.8)?? Where's the ACCC when you need them?

omg here we go again...
[insert facts/theories as to why it's expensive here]
[insert arguments saying why any and all answers
inserted above are wrong]
So just import and quit whining about it! RRP never has much to with the actual price anyway.Originally Posted by D.

Warranty might be an issue if the lens is imported. AFAIK Canon Australia
doesn't honour overseas purchases.
Personally I don't like Canon. Their service sucked some years back and I
haven't been convinced otherwise so far judging from a friend's recent
service issues with an IXUS 400 digital, however that's another issue.
Cheers,
Alan
And here is a good one, why do you pay Thousands for a wedding photo shoot
when it cost bugger all to take the photos.
where's the ACCC when you need them (Suspect not too many here would
complain about that though) ;-)

I'd just like the simple pleasure to walk into shop and buy a lense or
camera and know I'm not paying a 200 or 300 percent mark up over what I can
get it OS for. No duty hassles or worry its going to get flogged in the mail
or the supplier is a shonk.

:) don't we all ........... but you need to remember that these items
are the type that you only buy one or 2 of .. they are not "throw away"
items that you replace every year ... the retail shops have to make a
profit somehow ... so we pay what we pay .... The importer has to make
their profit and to pay for the shipping costs too ...
