I think its just deliberately irreverent... they do this all the time
with everything else.
Isnt the mark of an Aussie to be able to laugh at ourselves? Or is it
that we find it amusing when they make fun of America/Canada/UK/Japan,
but we can't take it?

It was an OK ep, a little degrading but that's not the point, the point
is it could've been really good, instead of a bunch of farmers and the
only civil thing here is the American Embassy. Who on earth uses an
embassy in Aus?
It was more like NZ, there's much more 'australian' characteristics to portray,
like our OWN continent without crappy neighbours to get infected from, they
don't even have their own continent, draw the borders to Canada and
Mexico and they are only slightly bigger than Aus, just because they're prolific
breeders and spend their national income making special effects, yanks think they
can mesmerize everyone that they're king

The show is laughing at Americans who think this is how we live. I think it
is one of the better episodes.

the episode, I just hate the always BAD attempt at Aussie accents. They end

alaska is near uninhabitable, hawaii is tiny isn't it?

At the moment Bush is on a world rampage and everyone in United Nations is sitting back
wondering if he knows what he's doing. One nuke on US turf (easily possible as the rest
of the world knows and thus keeps to their own land) and US will crawl back. Europe
lets them play charades as taking world stage, 5 other powers could wipe US in 20 minutes
of nuclear strike.

So? You said that USA was only slightly larger. In fact if you mean the 48
mainland states we are about 75% of their land mass. However, to come back
to what was being said, YOU said USA was only slightly larger in land mass.
Untrue. USA includes all 50 states and that includes Alaska and Hawaii. Add
them in and they dwarf us. It matters not who lives there or doesnt.

it was, thiamin, vit b or whatever it was but our land here is deficient in
it and I think it was in the 50s that whatever that missing thing is, the
Fed Govt here ordered it to be put into bread to stop the goitre problem
being as bad as it then was. We also have the second largest desert in the
world if I remember correctly. We are near the top in arid inhabitabed land
masses and with our near 21 million, we are actually overpopulated for the
land that is actually viable for us. We need look no further than the fact
that we cannot keep fresh water enough so that now our Govts are talking
about putting in deslinisation plants.

Would YOU watch a film made in Russia that is of questionable quality either
watching the mouth move differently to what was being said or reading what
was said while they spoke Russian? UK and USA have made English the most
widely accepted language though it isnt the most spoken language in the
world. Movies made in USA are in their brand of English and thus
understandable to Australians. We wouldnt accept low quality films not done
in English. I remember an SF pic made in Japan in the 60s. I was used to
crap coming from Japan - Mothra and the like. This one movie was
exceptionally good and I was able to not worry about the mouth moving
differently because of that. It was the ONLY Japanese movie that wasnt
animated that was worth it!

Nukes are yesterdays' technology. You can build a weapon out of about US$30
that would kill anyone close to it when it went off and totally stuff any
electrical equipment at which it was pointed. Unfortunately it is unlikely
that they would have more than a 1 use life. However, you can walk down the
street with the parts as they are everyday things. You can set them up
pointing at critical installations and unless they have military style
shielding, you can go through the walls with it. Now set them up against the
NYSE, power generation plants, hospitals, telecommunications centres etc and
link them to a mobile phone awaiting an SMS to go off then get on a plane
and fly out of USA but when still in range of the mobile network, send the
SMS and suddenly there is mass hysteria in USA. That will quickly be
followed by internal anarchy until the local troops get called out to
enforce peace. Now if that is all that is done, sure it can all be fixed and
in a few weeks at most, all be working again. However, the idea was only
EVER meant to cause massive disruption so you can do what you intended
doing. It would cause a lot of problems and cause the US to pull it's horns
in for a while but also go on a defensive alert. I would think a militarily
controlled USA which is what it would be for a short while if nothing else
happened would be a nasty place to be.

You don't need to nuke any longer. You can do as I described and take the
place over if you coordinate it well and in secret. You don't lose land etc
to radiation this way. You can move in, instantly if you have taken the
country over and can use all the resources available to the nation. The
populace would not have suffered any problems caused by the weapon but of
course they will have suffered problems that cascaded from the weapon's use.
Oh and if you think it is crap, this has all been discussed before and in
fact someone pointed out how to build it and said it would work. It
originally came up as a way to bring down computer networks to cause trouble
but it has expanded to much more.

not likely, most of alaska is impassable 6 months of the years. Add Antarctica
to Aus and we flog them.

Yeah, we're all desert at the moment, but the potential is there.
I designed a tidal powered desal plant, the tides pump water in
every 8 hours flushing the salt water, and then trickle through radiators
to help the condensation. no moving parts except for some valves.
also a tidal powered water pump, would only go about 100 meters of pressure though.

AUSTRLALIA watches it because we are just under populated to

are more availalbe techniques, but if it more than a 24 hour operation they'll pin you in 12.

Again it doesnt matter. You talked LAND MASS. Also, we dont OWN all of
Antarctica and even WITH it added even though it isnt officially an Aussie
state like Alaska is an American state, America STILL dwarfs us in land
mass.

Actually my mother developed that problem before having my sister who
inherited it when born. It is the iodine buildup in seafood that causes that
reaction which can, if not treated, kill them.

Sell it then! We need it! That reminds me, went to a public toilet for a pee
yesterday. No-one in there and before I got to the urinal, it flushes for no
good reason. Why the hell do we still have auto flushing urinals wasting
water 24 hours a day?
