Highlander dvx 5758 on screen timer won't turn off

I have just bought a Highlander DVX 5758 DVD player for my outdoor entertaining area. I've had this brand before so know they can be a bit hit and miss. Luckily this one seems ok. However. There is an issue with playing Divx files both on disc or via the USB slot and that is that you cannot turn off the on screen timer. No problem turning off when playing a DVD but with divx / avi files when you press the OSD button in merely toggles between elapsed and remaining. Having read through the forum I see that this is a Chinese quirk and other players do the same thing. I also saw that a firmware upgrade for an XMD player solved the issue and as these units are very similar is there a fix for this issue with the Highlander. Any help greatly appreciated
