Saw District 9 yesterday. Very well done, but really just a movie about racial discrimination, segregation and apartheid disguised as aliens.

I watched the SKY CRAWLERS blu ray.The disc itself is a good one with Dolby True HD options in English or Japanese if you so desire. The surround effects are identical with both tracks and often spectacular. As for the visuals and story the only thing that comes to mind is meticulous detail. This really is one of the most lovingly cared for adult anime's i've ever seen.If only i could care for the characters as lovingly as the director did it would be a masterpiece for me but they are oh so cold.It just never grabbed me from start to finish on any emotional level.Maybe it's a stoic Japanese thing but these guys never convinced me that they were real......Hmmnnn maybe that was the point of it.

Still watching the Columbo series and loving it. I've bought and have been watching a UK show I used to watch Drop The Dead Donkey and I still love and and find it very funny, I don't like a lot of British shows because I don't understand what they're talking about. With Drop The Dead Donkey, I just think of an Aussie in place of the pommy Priminister or who ever and it makes sense and great humour.

watched Slumdog Millionaire last night with a friend. It was ok. Lost interest towards the end because it seemed like
Spoiler! highlight to see
this kid straight outta Compton (N.W.A. reference) found his way eventually after lots of crime and getting violent, then goes on TV to find a lost love and once he knows she's watching gets a bit greedy.
I know thats it not meant to seem that way, but thats how i saw it. the transitions from childhood to adolescence/young adult werent too smooth, so it felt like the guy in the hot seat was a complete different person the entire movie.

Under-dog story that "opens our eyes" to poverty, pollution and corruption along the way. City Of God isnt a Hollywood spoon-feed and doesnt have the M.I.A soundtrack

My wife dragged me to Mao's last Dancer on the weekend. Tedious and slow storyline, only good if you happen to be into ballet. Sorely lacking in a few good kung fu scenes.

I don't imagine I'll think much of the movie because I loved the book, couldn't put it down.

Bo Bui Gai Wak

Nice work from Jackie Chan here, mixing humour with his usual jaw dropping stunts.

really enjoyed An Education last night. not too sweet, not too light-hearted, little bit funny. certainly one of the better PG movies floating around if youre sick of violence, drugs and swearing. Peter Sarsgaard wasnt too flash, but Carey Mulligan was great. quite purty too

Confessions Of A Shopaholic it was good for a laugh, typical chick flick but I enjoyed it.

Friday The 13th the new one, I like the origional more. I didn't find it scary at all and pretty boring I guess.

This is it
I'd never noticed that Michael Jackson wasn't just unicorn and rainbow fairytale la la land motivated but had an overall artistic direction, that just happened to encompass some of that.
I couldn't help but to find myself wanting to read between lines that may or may not have been there, that artistic genius usually comes at a price and that the charitable and loving person depicted clearly must have had demons on the flip side, and in his case those demons must have been very wicked indeed. We will never know the side of him that felt compelled to change his appearance so drastically and obsessively or that possibly molested children and most certainly had deviant views about what is an appropriate relationship with children.
The lines that I found myself looking at most had nothing to do with sexually assaulting children though, and more just what wondering what was on the flipside of what seemed like a very genuine and passionate drive to perform in a way that he felt was meaningful and expressive in a positive way toward the world. Also, I found myself realising that regardless of any energy level he had, or physical ability on stage, that his singing and dancing is something that has been a part of him his whole life, and he could have well been high heroin and still performing well.
On a few occasions in the movie I thought for sure he was in fact doped up enough that it was clear, and did also effect his performance in the rehearsal of one piece... slurring his speech and not doing his moves well. I don't know why that clip was included.

I was sort of a fan, like a lot of people who couldn't get passed the allegations of sexual assault and his girlyness that seemed to defy rational sense at times. I liked some of his music, then I couldn't take him seriously, then I got over it sort of and liked it a bit again. He died and ... well, so do a lot of people. I saw the movie because my wife was a big fan. It isn't bad. It isn't great. It is what it is, and it isn't really worth trying to decide what that means to me.

It could go either way. It could have been a cash in but it could have been a thing done out of mourning.
One thing for sure is that someone had enough time to put together an hour and 50 minutes of work that was done professionally enough given the content at hand, in the way that it wasn't overly emotional for the general public. You would expect family members to make a more sappy production that others wouldn't appreciate so much straight after a death. Perhaps someone had the good sense to give the project to someone else to do.

alright, if you say so.

i read a review that called it a cash-in and the production felt rushed, but it is easy to say that. the same reviewer probably liked Capitalism: A Love Story...

It could easily have been a cash in. I was trying more to imply there's no way to tell for sure, but someone certainly wanted to cash in... question is who... someone supposedly close to him or were people close to him exploited? Don't know.

Finally saw Star Trek
Best Star Trek yet. In addition to being quality entertainment that isn't entirely mindless, you still at the same time don't have any opportunity to take your eyes off the screen. At some times its because of action, at some times its character stuff, a bit of humour, etc.

Saw Paranormal Activity on the weekend. Absolutely loved it! If you're into horror it's a must see. Not the scariest movie I've seen lately (Drag Me To Hell had me screaming non stop!) but they do such an amazing job of making what is supposed to be a home video look like the real thing. I love that this low budget film is raking in more money than some of the current blockbusters.
