M571 v7.0 Bios Update?
Hello, I am new to this forum.
I have an M571 v7.0 motherboard. I plan to upgrade my CPU and get a larger harddrive. My questions are.. Will the M571 v7.0A Bios at http://m571.com/m571/files/990421s.zip work for my M571 v7.0 motherboard? What is the difference between the v7.0A and my v7.0 motherboard? If I cannot use the M571 v7.0A Bios, could someone supply me one for my M571 v7.0 or tell me where to get it? Alittle about my computer. You are correct: use the file named 990421s.rom for a 7.0/7.0a board.
Also, get the flashing utility and follow the instructions EXACTLY for success. It is best to use a bootable floppy with no drivers or autoexec.bat or config.sys file. Save your old BIOS image and be sure to put the flashing boot floppy some place where it will not cause havoc! Regards,

In any case, an EYO member, Timmy, has a website completly devoted to m571 mobo's. here. http://m571.com/m571/m571upgrade.htm You should be able to find a newer bios for the board there, as well as some tweaks .I'm gonna get back my m571 board! ![]()

It has gone to a good home where it will be used rather than just occasionally being booted up to investigate the odd query on this forum. I have heard that the new lady owner has had a broadband connection installed for it and has been surfing the web. She has already down-loaded photographs from her camera and been enjoying viewing them and playing some music files that I had left on it somewhere. Rather it be made regular use of than not. What say you? Now the starter of this thread, once he has his new BIOS installed, should be looking at putting a faster AMD K6 2 or better still a K6 3 processor on to his mobo. The link you have given to Timmy's site is all he really needs but for a step by step approach he may find a clue or two here: http://phorums.com.au/showthread.php?t=8799

Yeah, that was nice LesD, thats putting it to better use. BTW dude, its nice to see you here! You've been scarcER than normal. This place has been lacking dude... I hope you can stop by more often. Hey les, what do you mean by better k62/3 CPUs? From what I know, the K62 goes up to 550 compared to the K63 which goes to 450 or so, does the architecture of the k63 make it considerably better? Anything faster than 550 out there? ![]()

Hi Grim,
I still have an M571 v7.0 with a K6-3 450 2.2v running at 500 Mhz. I use it when working in my garage at weekends and it's completely stable. No M571 can go beyond 500Mhz because the max FSB is 83.3 Mhz. The K6-3 450 might be able to though, on a suitably equipped Super Socket 7 board. I believe there was a very rare K6-3 500 Mhz processor, and of course there was the K6-3+ which had the same 256kb L2 cache as the ordinary K6-3, and which enthusiasts have clocked above 600 Mhz. Hey cricket. Good to see you man, its been a while.
Dam, its funny to see how the word m571 drags out peeps out of there holes : rolleyes: lol. ABOVE 600mhz huh? Dang, that must have really kicked ass in its time. I had a 500mhz k6, and that thing really did well. Not to mention that my mobo had an AGP 4x port! ![]() I bet those chips would have even performed better than durons of the same speed. Sure the duron had higher FSB and Faster Cache speeds, but those darn chips had caches the size of Athlon T-Birds! lol. I cant just imagine what it would have been like - having one of those running at 600 mhz. The m571 max FSB is only 83.3! . And here I was thinking it was the standard 100mhz. ![]() Oh well, good to know your beast is still alive man ![]()
