Quick Prepay question
I'm going to be in Melbourne for 2 weeks with an unlocked GSM
900/1800/1900 phone. Rather than pay hefty surcharges on incoming and outgoing calls, and asking people to make internation calls to me, I thought I might pick a local sim. I don't expect to be making a lot of calls, so probably will throw away the sim with some unspent time left on it. Obviously I don't want to spend time shopping around. What's a good recommendation for my circs? I just want to walk into a shop, hand over as little cash as possible and walk out with a sim. (otherwise it's ~$1.80/minute outgoing and $1.20/min+caller charges incoming, so it should be easy to save a few dollars) thanks joan -- Joan McGalliard, UK http://www.mcgalliard.org |

You can get a starter pack for $AU30 almost anywhere. When you register you will get several options. Night Talker: http://tinyurl.com/5e3kt Talker: http://tinyurl.com/4aly3 Texter: http://tinyurl.com/4unxe Would probably be the best options for you. Optus prepaid could also suit you: http://tinyurl.com/5wqfp Virgin is another common one: http://tinyurl.com/6dlfg Hope this helps. -- The views I present are my own and NOT of any organisation I belong to. 73 de Simon, VK3XEM. http://www.aca.gov.au/pls/radcom/cli...IENT_NO=157452 VoIP http://www.TALKonIP.com.au/ |

There are four GSM carriers with widely-sold SIM kits - Optus, Virgin, Vodafone and Telstra. Optus SIM kit: $29.95 cost, with $30 included calls Calls: 36c/min to any Australian mobile, 74c/min to fixed-lines plus connection fee ('flagfall') of 25c per call, for all calls (choose the 'text+talk' option for these rates, when you connect) http://www.optus.com.au/prepaidmobile Virgin Mobile SIM kit: $19.95 cost, with $20 included calls Calls: 60c/min to fixed or mobile phones, plus 20c flagfall http://www.virginmobile.com.au/ Vodafone SIM kit: $29.95 cost, with $30 included calls Calls: 40c/min to fixed or mobile phones, plus 20c flagfall http://www.vodafone.com.au/rep/prepa...prepaid#talker (choose the 'Talker' option when you connect) Telstra SIM kit: $25 cost, with $25 included calls Calls: 77c/min (or alternatively $1/min peak, 40c/min off peak), plus 20c flagfall http://www.telstraprepaidplus.com.au/ Virgin has the cheapest initial cost, but they're all within $10 (about £4?) of each other. You could scout around eBay and pick up SIM kits for about $5 plus postage. http://phones.listings.ebay.com.au/P...istingItemList There are other options, but they're less widely sold, or not sold from retail shops. |

Re: Quick Prepay question
Or vodafone prepaid capped $49 (for $230) or $79 (for $500 of calls),
includes international calls as part of the cap.
