Optus 'Free' TV on Mobile

Just wondering has anyone else been using this service lately?

I used it for the first time this month, and got a nasty surprise!

I've been billed $143 for watching free TV!

I've called Optus three times in the last hour, only to be confronted by
idiots that have no idea what they are talking about--quote "Live TV,
nah Optus doesn't do that service!"

And twice, I was hung up on...

1. "The only thing that's free in this world mate is oxygen (hang up) -
This from one of the supervisors.

2. After asking to speak to another supervisor, and waiting 5 minutes
from the honour, all I got was "Hi, this is the team leader, and I don't
really give a fuck!" before hanging up.

I can not believe the monkeys I had to speak to...there's an hour of my
life I'll never get back!

Should I take this to the ombudsmen??

Re: Optus 'Free' TV on Mobile

You have exhausted options of customer complaint within Optus. Make a formal
complaint to the TIO at http://www.tio.com.au. They will either redirect you
to a higher level customer complaints area in Optus, or accept your
complaint and they will liaise with a high level complaints area in Optus.

Make sure you give them the full details of the complaint, including the
abuse you received from their monkeys.

You get that, dealing with a Singaporean mob.

How much data via the Video Streaming gateway did you download for the
month? Optus only allow 10MB per month, which can be anywhere from 30min
to 3 hours at the speeds I receive it. You're supposed to be "cautioned"
if you exceed 10MB, but they probably just billed you for it instead :(

If it makes you feel any better I got a bill almost identical to yours
when they converted me, without my knowledge, from Plan #2 to standard
GPRS rates, quadrupuling my bill. It was a bit of a fight to get the
standoffish drone to recognise the problem, one of the very few rude
CSRs I have dealt with at Optus.

Yes they informed about the 10mb limit when I called today. According to
my bill I downloaded a total of 7999kb, which according to the both
Optus people I spoke to, is over 10megs...go figure lol

Hmmm... did your 7999kb include TV streaming, or was that just actual
data (ie other non-video GPRS download, such as WAP)?

The TV component shouldn't be metered as part of your download
allowance or download charges - the Optus Zoo website clearly says that
Live TV is *free*, not 'included in your download allowance'.

I only accessed a maximum of 15 pages in the month, so it is very
unlikely it would add upto 8MB. I usually use my WAP much much more, and
it is always under 2MB (Because Optus had a $9.90 cap for data upto 2MB).
