Re: free credit

it costs money to make money
when you think about it $30 to revtel is not $30
it costs next to nothing to make a mobile call

ive ported a few of my old numbers over to revtel
they havent been charging me the 15c network fee per day
so im not complaining :)

Of course it is, Rod? are you daft?
If you didnt give the credit the customer would be paying $30 to you, for
$30 worth of service, instead of paying $0 to you, for $30 worth of service

If it wasnt losing money then every $10 plan would have $100000 worth of
free calls every month

Crapshit

They dont own the network, so they are wholesaling.
Every MINUTE costs Revtel money to the carrier

So?
If you buy 1000 minutes airtime for 9000cents thats the same as 9c per
minute. Its irrelevant what quantity the airtime is purchased in

Every minute costs Revtel money

Thanks :-)
Hopefully I will :-)

Once the network is established a call costs practically nothing, of
course they are paying wages and a very small amount on maintenance,
etc. In reality once the network is established call costs would
probably be comparable to landline costs.

There is no real reason for timed calls on mobile phones except for them
to have a massive profit.

So Revtel gets phone calls for free? even though they are only a wholesaler
and not a network operator?

mobile base stations have a number of channels available to make calls, the
longer people use the mobile, the smaller the availability of said channels,
thus the relevant reason for having timed calls.

in spades with optus' 'yes time' offer which forced optus to expand their
network in a big way, often just increasing the saturation of coverage
without adding ANY new geographical coverage

The massive increase in percentage population coverage in recent years
bringing it almost in line with Telstra GSM coverage is no NEW
geographical coverage?

From a reliability and depth of coverage perspective I wish that
Hutchison 3G National Roaming was with SingTel Optus rather than
Telstra (effective 01/04/2005).

It's not called 'fucking' if there's only you and your hand in the room.
I don't recall the exact word, but Rod might be able to give you a clue.

Try explaing the untimed local fixed line calls when the same sorts of limits
apply to the fixed line inter-exchange network.
