Video outputs stillOK.

Is this something usual with Onkyo and what could have caused it?

Nope. Played wit all the speaker switches, mute, set-up etc. A major fuse

Check the digital audio connection at both the amp and the dvd player,my DVD player has lost audio several times, the ONKYO display reverts to "pro-logic". It could also be the digital cable

**One or more output stages has likely failed and the protection system has
disconnected the speakers. Either way, if you have to ask how to repair it,
I suggest you take it to a pro.
