Re: Projector Help

Screw Sony.

Seriously though, expand your options. I take it you pick those two
because they aren't DLP?

WWW.projectorcentral.com for some good advice,

Look into ones from Infocus, Benq, Optoma, Hitachi

If you can handle DLP, i'd seriously consider going DLP over LCD.

Re: Projector Help

Make sure you SEE the DLP one first.. I haven't found a DLP projector yet
where I don't get a headache from watching it.. I have had the Hitachi TX100
(which I accidentally broke! .. oops) and now I have a Panny AE700 ...
Hitachi image is VERY sharp.. very nice projector.. Panny has much nicer
contrast for those dark scenes and a softer image so that the pixels don't
show.. I'm very happy with the panny!

Re: Projector Help

It's weird, the first DLP i saw a Benq 6100 played havoc on my eyes,
after 10 mins I had sore eyes and a headache.

Hence why I bough an Epson LCD instead.

However at work on the weekends, i'm seeing DLP projectors more often,
ie the Benq 5120, an optoma, etc and the rainbow effect is barely
noticeable, yet the projectors I see all have 2x.

Another anomaly I have, is that some days I will notice the rainbows
and other days I won't see it, ie today I almost couldn't spot them.
Some days when I don't feel to crash hot, have a headache, sore eyes,
tired, etc I notice the rainbows more. It's bizzare.

The Hitachi TX100 is nice, although the visible picture structure is
annoying. Hence why Im getting rid of my Epson, beautiful projector in
terms of picture, but where I sit relative to the screen the pixel
structure is noticeable, hence why I prefer a DLP.

However I am willing to spend a bit more and go for a Panasonic 700,
since I can get it for cost price or possibly direct from Panasonic.

Re: Projector Help

I forgot to add, the only thing that makes me weary of the Panasonic is
the method of HOW it hides the visible pixel structure which is by
slightly softening ie defocusing it somewhat.

I have the Pana 700 and am very happy with it. The Pana AE 900 is coming out soon so may be worth a look - at the least it should force the AE700 prices down further.

I don't agree with the comment above re the Sony - the HS50 is an LCD pj and was superior to the Pana AE700 frm my viewing - the problem is price - an extra $1k when I was looking which I couldn't justify at the time.

Re: Projector Help

Sony's more wank value than anything. Overpriced, you pay for the same.

Sony's favoured by low intelligence wog boys (i'm a wog too, so I can
it) who think its the best brand out there, and have every product in
their home Sony.

I remember some big Italian dude, a little slow but had a lot of money
and he's asking about sound systems, wanting a Sony, and I turn around
and say "There's stuff much better than sony" he looks at me totally
dumb founded going in an aggitated tone "Wel what's better than sony?"
I just replied "Well plenty of brands you havent heard of, such as
onkyo, denon, sherwood, marantz, yamaha, etc"

So sony can shove it up their proverbial asses.

Personally their sound systems are pretty mediocre, ie their sub $1k
mini systems, Home theatre in a box systems are usually totally out
performed in sound output and quality by the little LG systems half the
price, ie i've compared a $399 LG sound system to a $1399 Sony sound
system, most customers were in disbelief by how shit the Sony sounded.

Their TV's are good, but expensive, I think their RPTV whilst gorgeous
picture are totally overpriced.

Their digital cameras, namely the S1 (i think thats it) my sister
bought one, it was a Pile of shit, hopeless under low light, grainy
picture, my $300 fuji 3mp left that $800 5mp sony for dead.

Overpriced projectors.

Overpriced vaio laptops.

Crap crap stereo, Sony Xplode speakers are shit, their subs burn out
easily and their head units end up faulty quite often. This info is
coming from me seeing it happen to friends and from car stereo
installers who sell or have sold Sony.
