Re: Projector
The only thing against the Panasonic is the reported early failure of
the globes. I did some reading and research and it appears quite common. |

Absolutely brilliant. No gripes at all. I got a spare globe bundled with it for a fraction of the price of a new one but at the rate I'm going, it'll be 4 more years before the current globe reaches the end of it's nominal life (5000hrs in low power mode - which incidently is perfectly fine) and I need the new one. DLP projection can cause nausea and headaches as well as the often cited rainbows so before buying one, make sure you watch one for a good 20 - 30 minutes minimum to make sure you aren't affected. Other than that, look at both formats and decide for yourself. Weigh up what you want... Format (16:9 or 4:3), resolution, lens thow (how close it has to be to the screen to create the image size you want, lamp life, etc, oh, and of course cost. It's a bit of a open ended question as to which is best... you'll get a pretty even vote for either so as I've pointed out, just make sure you aren't affected by rainbows, nausea, headaches, etc and then decide from there. I loved the DLP I first looked at then saw how crook it made my Mrs. No probs with LCD though, hence the 500. Hi Def resolution, and widescreen format projection with good globe life... Cheers, Nick. |

Re: Projector
The pana problems was wit the ae700 model.
As for 4:3 / 16:9, not point going to 4:3 unless your using it for computer. DLP vs LCD is a personal thing. As I was saying, DLP doesn't bother me anywhere near like it used to, now I find it difficult to notice, which might have something to do with me seeing DLP projectors in action at work on a weekly basis. |

I don't know what you are seeing on the DLP at work but if it is a static picture, as in presentations, then I suspect you would be less likely to notice a rainbow effect. It is supposedly cause by eye movement tracking moving images... Also, don't forget about those that are also likely to watch it a lot, eg, Mrs, girlfriend, etc. The key to getting it right is taking your time and shopping around and looking at plenty of examples of both types plus the different brands and resolutions. One of my brothers has a lower resolution DLP and the other has a lower res LCD. In that comparison the DLP looks way better but again, one is designed for home theatre, the other for office presentations. I waited and went Hi Def when I could afford the difference in price because after looking at both, I knew it would only be a short while before I became unhappy with the lower resolution and would be kicking myself for being impatient.... Have fun choosing. Cheers Nick. |
