Trouble resetting Marantz learning remote.

Have a Marantz SR7500 amplifier that came with a rc8500 sr learning remote
(aka rc1400) and have programmed all the codes perfectly.

I have since acquired a marantz 5 disc cd changer and want to reset the cd
player button back to factory default. I remember the default was and also
stated in the manual for the cd function was a Marantz 5 disc changer when I
first got the remote. Hower I followed the instructions in the manual to
reset and erase all codes from the cd button, which should reset the cd
button back to factory default.

Even the pre-programmed codes don't work or only show 3 disc changer and
control wrong function when pressed.

What have I done wrong? Why won't / can't my remote be reset back to factory
default for the cd button? Any ideas on fixing this?
