Multiple DVD Burners

Hi all,

I know a bloke who is big into making budget home made movies, travel docos etc and he is interested in me helping him with a multiple DVD burner setup.

Apparently Retail versions of Nero support multiple burners (I think 2, with upgrades to 7 and 32 possible).

I'm wondering about the hardware though - since he has a standard PC with capacity of 4 IDE devices, would it work if he simply put in a USB 2.0 card (or firewire) and used 4x standard DVD burners in external cases?

Would this be reliable - I assume he would need a fair bit of ram or does burning 4 at once not neccesarily need 4 times the memory capacity?

This is getting a bit past my experience with DVDs so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have two machines set up with two DVD burners each (4 different burners), although not exactly what you are describing I have found that there is a very slight delay in Nero when commencing but the actual time to burn using two burners or one is identical, one machine is reasonably spec'd, 3gig P4 with 2gig of ram, the other machine though is an old 1.5gig P4 with only 512mb of ram and it still copes quite well. Any decent late model hardware should have no problem with multiple burners.
