It helps. The number of calls have dropped a lot since I subscribed. |

Telemarketers are like Mormons and JWs. One can have endless fun with them by going along with their spiel for a while. Remember, when they phone you from India they are paying for the call and having to pay the odd few rupees for the staff. It is also tying up that staff member and a phone line while you are wasting their time. The arseholes that paid for the "service" are not getting their money's worth. It is a win-win situation if you can spare the time. Just last week I let some poor bugger talk for 10 minutes about the "benefits" of attending some "investment" seminar. When I eventually got sick of it I admitted that I worked for the ATO (sort of true - my company subcontracts to EDS who contract to the ATO). For some reason he hung up. ;-) I reckon it is more entertaining than most of what's on TV thesedays. |

If it shows "out of area" aroind din din times, dont answer. The good thing about these proposed laws is that all of those Australian companies that set-up a call centre in India will be rooted. |

No they wont, most wont bother to get themselves listed on the do not call register, you watch. |

And even if they do half of them ignore "don't call" instructions. Yell, and they'll say they got you off a new list sold bysomeone else and their cross-checking "missed you"!! AMP, Citibank and American Express are all ADMA members who I've had troubles with and now I just pass on the mail to NSW Fair Trading who get onto the companies and it dries up for a few months (more difficult with phone calls). ADMA are useless. They are the last people you'd want in charge of a "Do Not Call Register" as it isn't in their own financial interest to have too many people on a "Do Not Call Register" - how will they do business if no-one wants calls? This is also the reason we need an opt-in system rather than an opt-out system, but bet you anything you like the government will take ADMA's side and force us to go to the trouble of opting-out (ADMA members afterall feature amongst the biggest political donors). We also really want to include politicians and charities on the "Do Not Call" list - last time I checked the pollies wanted themselves to be an exception, and they wanted charities also to be an exception (I will no longer donate to Red Cross as had continual calls from people claiming to be Red Cross Victoria annoying me for months). |

Yeah, tho its easier to shaft ADMA members if they try that. > Yell, and they'll say they got you off a new list sold bysomeone else > and their cross-checking "missed you"!! AMP, Citibank and American > Express are all ADMA members who I've had troubles with and now I just > pass on the mail to NSW Fair Trading who get onto the companies and it > dries up for a few months (more difficult with phone calls). ADMA are useless. That's overstating it, presumably some do honor the do not call register. > They are the last people you'd want in charge of a > "Do Not Call Register" as it isn't in their own financial > interest to have too many people on a "Do Not Call > Register" - how will they do business if no-one wants calls? Thats rather silly too. There isnt any point in calling those who are on the do not call register, its unlikely that many who have gone to the trouble to register will even listen to the call, let alone buy what is being spruiked. > This is also the reason we need an opt-in > system rather than an opt-out system, That is never gunna happen and not one country world wide has that. > but bet you anything you like the government will take ADMA's side Nothing to do with the ADMA, the govt realises that its just not practical. > and force us to go to the trouble of opting-out (ADMA > members afterall feature amongst the biggest political donors). Mindless conspiracy theory. > We also really want to include politicians and charities > on the "Do Not Call" list - last time I checked the pollies > wanted themselves to be an exception, Yep, and you're off with the fucking fairys if you seriously believe that the pollys will go for an opt in system for polly telemarketing. > and they wanted charities also to be an exception Basically because they consider that the charitys might well end up in very deep shit if they cant make calls. > (I will no longer donate to Red Cross as had continual calls from > people claiming to be Red Cross Victoria annoying me for months). Yea, I just dont like any calls by charitys, if I want to donate I'll do that without needing a phone call and I think that the percentage of donations that get wasted on the calls are an obscenity and so I wont normally donate to any operation that calls for that reason. |
