Probably was so stupid she didn't know what tri-band actually is as well!

Did you end up finding one that suited you?

Nokia 5140i on Optus Prepaid for $249 looks like it might fit the bill.
Or a Nokia 3120 for $129.

http://www.nokia.com/phones/5140i
http://www.nokia.com/phones/3120
http://www.optus.com.au/portal/site/...00c8a87c0aRCRD

Get it unlocked using one of the free/cheap services, and you're sorted.

Tending towards the Sony 508i

And where does one go to get it unlocked?

Hey, this is only my personal experience with the ones I have used,
somebody else's opinion will be somewhat different. Some nice looking phones
and some savvy ideas, but not much else I'm afraid.

I agree, my personal experience with Motorola mobile phones is not very
good and would not recommend them.

Oh and I remember a Philips Savvy and that was a piece of junk too! :P

Well, there's the rub - the reason I suggested Nokias is that they're
pretty easy to unlock remotely (see unlock123.com, unlockmynokia.com,
or a free service mentioned here a few weeks ago).

Sony Ericssons take a bit more effort, and require a cable or other
equipment to unlock them. Telstra had clearance stock of the K500i
(much the same as the K508i) going for $199 earlier this year - maybe
check local Telstra Shops/dealers.

Have to agree I had a V8088 which lasted about 14 months
with the backlight for the screen lasting 10 months .....

After that went the rest soon followed .... By the end of 14
months it had totally died. Could not hold battery charge
and would not restart...... Totally dead.

G'day

My SE K500i is for sale, only two months old with data cable, IrDa to
USB adaptor, new case, car charger, stereo radio PHF20, original
invoice for warranty if needed. Reason for sale is that I have moved to
Three.
Contact me by email if interested.

Yep crap , Motorola as said is good looking and savvy but thats it . High
dropout rate . Had a V600 which would say missed call when on 5 bars and was
in my pocket . Happened once too often and cost me money so I smashed it ,
was 18 months old and had been repaired once . The incall dropout rate was
also very high and actually makes the networks more money .

Bought a W800i Sony and its all good in da hood
