CRT HDTV with new sound system OR LCD HDTV only?

Hi all,

I want to upgrade my old 51" CRT TV to a decent HD TV. I have around $3000 for the upgrade.

I've done my research and came down to the following choices:

1. Get a decent CRT HD TV (I can get my hands on a decent Panasonic 76cm HD TV for around $1300 but only for the next week or so). Get new speaker setup with new amp for around $1200.

2. Get a decent LCD TV (80cm) for $3000 and stick with my current audio system.

I have a satalite 5.1 Sony system ATM which to me sounds good but people are telling me there is no mid range sound in satalites and I am best off getting a decent floor standing 5.1 (or 5.2 if the amp supports it) set of speakers and get a matching amp.

The main advantages for me going with option 1 is I can use my existing sound system for the computer (which at the moment doesnt have a great sound system) or perhaps the lounge room TV but that doesnt get used much. Also the new amp will probably have component switching my current one only has S-Video.

I did a little research on the speakers and found Sony have a 6.2 setup for $1000 but I am not sure if they will be much better than my current setup.
I also saw a nice set with large speakers at JB for around $1500 but that was just for the speakers. I could wait a little longer and save up more for the amp and get the CRT TV now an perhaps an entertainment wall unit.

What I really want to know is which would have a better pic quality (CRT or LCD). From what I have read CRT is better but the sets are much heavier (double the weight). The LCD will have HDMI input the CRT doesnt. The LCD will support 720p the CRT doesnt but does support 1080i and 5xxp.

I already have a SD PVR so I dont need to buy a STB ( I dont want to spend the extra cash ATM for a HD STB as I will probably upgrade my PVR in 2-3 years provided more HD TV broadcast).

Also will large floor standing speakers provide much better sound that is clearly noticeable?

thanks
