Trio DX-628 freeze

Hi all,

Checked out this forum when I was researching this dvd/mp3/divx player and it generally got good feedback. I then bought 4 off ebay as presents from OzAuction. Around $60 each inc postage. Only one I know of has been installed and used so far, but this one freezes about half-way through a commercial dvd, and also part-way through some mpeg files (downloaded from **edited**).

When the freeze happens, there is nothing you can press on the remote or the unit itself, to get any reaction.... except the power button. When you switch it off and then on again, and fast-forward to the point just before the initial freeze, the unit will happily play the rest of the file/dvd without any more freezing.

Is this something someone has come across before? If so, can it be fixed somehow before I have to send it back under warranty (postage at my expense).

My thoughts (so far) on this are:
- it`s not the discs. It`s happened on all discs that it`s been asked to play (burned mpeg`s and commercial dvd`s). Brand new discs without scratches.
- could it be a heat problem? The unit has no air vents on the top, so I`m assuming they are at the back, and would be quite small.
- It could have been when the commercial dvd jumps to the 2nd layer (about half way through), but that wouldn`t be the case with the .mpeg single-layer dvd`s.
- somethings buggered and it has to go back.

Certainly doesn't sound too healthy.
If it's happening on commercial discs as well, there must be something wrong, maybe laser alignment or something.
Would be worth pulling another one out to check out though.

Yeah, will do as soon as I can get the rellies to install them and try them out. Would rather send back all 4 at once than one at a time if they are all faulty (save on postage).

Would like to know if anyone else has these units and had the same problem, or even any unit and come across this problem. Very strange.

I`ve sent an e-mail to Trio support. Will update if they reply.

These were decent in their day but they are about 2 years old, which is old age by generic DVD standards.
