Angry CONIA MR910D whirring noise

I've just purchased a Conia MR910D DVD recorder and it has an irritating hi pitched whirring noise when I play a disk. I took it back to JB Northland, got a replacement but it does the same. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Also when I record off TV a blue bar appears at the top of screen with record time info etc; does anyone know how to get rid of it when recording?

Sounds like drive noise, some units have it more than others, the display bar can usually be hidden, have a look at the remote for a button marked display or info perhaps (not familiar with your particular model but most have something like this)

About the annoying bar at the top of the screen, i just press display, and then another menu comes up, and display again and it disappears.

Bottom right hand corner of the remote - DISPLAY BUTTON will get rid of it. You have to press it twice you'll find.
