Am I doing something wrong? Ipconfig/all looks ok?
So here is my problem..sometimes i can get on the internet and sometimes I
can't. There is no reason why.. such as a changed setting or something of that nature. it just seems to be completly random. Here is what I'm working with... windows xp sp2, verizon DSL, an ActionTec Wireless router( hoping to connect my other computer when i resolve this issue). So the times that i can't get on i get the "page unavailable" and when i look under FILE Properties it says something like "shdoc.dll dnserror.dll" so like I said tho...2 minutes later i could go to IE and get connected with having done nothing!!!When I go look at my network settings all looks good ..says i have a connection strong signal. When i go look at ipconfig-all it all "seems" to look ok?? I was wondering tho it does say domain not set?? and under the DNS server it lists the same ip number as my router?? So can anyone help?? Got any ideas?? Please Help!!! Thank You in Advance SOOO Much!! ; ) Stephanie "Mouse" Mouse -- -- Thank You !!!! |

Re: Am I doing something wrong? Ipconfig/all looks ok?
Verizon has a little "quirk" for their DSL... When you had your PC
connected, it picked up the IP address they assigned. When you unplugged the PC and plugged in the router, Verizon does not want to give the IP address to the router because it is still associated with the PC. Here is the "fix": Plug the cable from the modem back into the PC Run IPCONFIG /RELEASE Disconnect the cable from the PC and attach it to the router Verizon will give the IP to the Router Regards. Re: Am I doing something wrong? Ipconfig/all looks ok?
ok I'm really going to sound like an idiot here but..I'm not following you?
When you say cable from the modem.. Maybe I 'm not being clear enough. The router is a modem also. Here I'm going to copy and paste a shot of my IP config. Then maybe you can tell if I've done something wrong... Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>ipconfig/all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : dellxp Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : domain_not_set.invalid Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : domain_not_set.invalid Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Cont roller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.xxx.xxx.xxx Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.1 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Wednesday, March 29, 2006 9:50:20 AM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Thursday, March 30, 2006 9:50:20 AM so does it look ok? I thought there should be something different in dns for verizon but maybe not? Thats why I'm asking the experts!! ; ) Stephanie "Mouse" -- Thank You !!!!
