Sam and Max - Sound under XP?
My first post on this board so big hello to everybody.
Is any wise soul out there able to help with any tips to get Sam and Max Hit the Road to run correctly under XP? The game itself seems to run but I cannot get the sound to play. Thanks in advance for advice. Cheers |

they are all DOS based games, right?
XP all but removed DOS from the system, have you tried to run them in Win95 compatability mode? |

Thanks for the replies and the welcomes to date.
I have tried in 95 mode but no go there either. There is a config sound utility that is supposed to set up your sound drivers but it does not seem to run under xp at all. Sam and Max does run but it is no fun as a silent movie. |

Heh, Good luck to you whizz. I will another crack at it as well. Bootdisk might be the way to go.
Thanks for that link death - looks like an excellent resource for breathing life back into old favs. Hopefully a solution can be worked at for it. Cheers |

no worries.
The bootdisc solution should work no probs, however you will most likely need to load up a 16bit dos sound driver. Have quick look at that site or google it to find some. Look for a nice generic one if you can't find one specific to yours. |

I have found a great emulator that will run the sound of dos games under xp. Go here http://ntvdm.cjb.net/ I have tried it with only a couple of games so far but have had no problems with getting sound to run.
Just another query. Is sam and max supposed to have voices within the game? Ive jsut started playing it again and cannot rememeber (i am not getting any, though getting all the other sounds) |

Thanks for the link greasy. I am just downloading atm and will try and set it up later tonight.
The CD version of Sam n Max certainly did have voices - it was one of it's main selling points - it was a full talkie. |

I had a bit of trouble with VDMsound (not got the patience atm) but I did find another link to this excellent little emulator which seems to run Sam n Max well.
