1 STB to multple TVs via RF splitter

Hi,

Pretty new to this so here goes...

I have 3 TVs around the house, is it possible to use one STB to
service all 3 TVs via a splitter???

If so, can each of the TVs watch different channels at the same
time???

If TV 1 is watching Channel 7, then TV 2 and 3 will receive Channel 7
because your just sending the single from TV 1 to the other TVs.

No, it works just like Foxtel, one box per TV.

If your STB has an rf modulator than you can concievably route this around the house to other tv's.

Another way is to use a 2.4ghz video sender type device and use an extra receiver for each tv.

You can only select one channel at a time on a STB.

No such thing as a stupid question - only stupid answers. And yours is
in that category. If someone doesn't know something then let them ask
without fear - answers such as yours lower peoples confidence and
achieve nothing except make them feel bad. This forum is for people to

The only way I can think of to watch different channels is to stack a few
stbs and adjust the uhf out channel to be different for each one, and have
ch7 on one stb, 9 on another etc etc, then reverse a splitter from the
output, so its all flowing into one cable...
Then tune each tv to the uhf channels...and rename the channels to what they
actually are broadcast as so the end user knows no difference:)
I think a lot of digital savvy hotels use this method, and also for inhouse
movies.

So has anyone ever seen such a box, that will take all the digital
channels, convert them to analogue and modulate them into an RF
output?

If not, maybe that could be my next project. Ideally, the box should
act as an extension to the antenna. I think I'll look into this and
see how doable it is.

If anyone has any thoughts, ideas, criticisms, etc, let me know.

If you've only got 3 TV's is this really worth it? One box per TV is less
than one per station, unless you live in certain areas without digital
terrestrial TV yet...

Worth it? I don't know, I'm looking into some chipsets from Analog
Devices.

One idea might be to design 5 digital decoders onto one board and
modulate the signals into 5 UHF channels.

Multiplexing the 5 channels through 1 digital decoder might be another
way. This may require some pretty high speed muxing though.

I don't see why something like this hasn't been developed before, or
maybe it has and I haven't found it yet, or maybe the idea is to push
people into buying HD TV Sets and throw away their SD TV Sets???

Pretty wasteful if you ask me...

Routing it as you suggest is fine but there are two limitations:

1 as everyone has said, you can only have your STB on one channel so if it is routed all your sets will have to watch that channel.

2. if you use the output to modulate an RF channel it means you will not get any of the benefits (as little as they are) of your STB. So you will be able to maintain the status quo and watch analogue TV on your sets but not get advantages like dolby digital sound, etc.

Hopefully for those households that have multiple TVs (not at all uncommon) that will still be in good nick when the final crunch comes the price of SD STBs will have dropped to a level where the purchase of one is not a hardship.
