HD STB with Firewire port for PC connectivity - Does one Exist?

Hello,

Just getting my head around the whole digital TV thing and would like to get
one of the above. An internal card is out of the question for me as I only
have a ^%&^%$ low profile Dell PC.

Does anyone have any links for such a beast? Any advice would be greatly
appreciated

Thanks
Jason

Nope, as there isn't much of a market for a dual use device.

Just get the external USB2 Nebula decoder:

They certainly exist, dunno if any support Wintel. See, for example:

PCI card is much cheaper though!

The Elgato's aren't set top boxes that decode the output themselves to a
display device directly. The question implied a device similar to the
Hauppauge DEC-1000/2000 that outputs directly to a TV etc AND can be
controlled and viewed from a PC.

Avermedia make a low profile digital PCI card.
It only does SD, not HD.
I've installed several and they seem to work well.
You can get them from www.northsideantennas.com.au for $159 - bargain price.

Cheers,
Northwind

Re: HD STB with Firewire port for PC connectivity - Does one Exist?

Hmm.

I'm very happy with my high-end card. The VisionPlus, at $229 including
postage, is only $70 more than the Aver card but it does sooooo much more.
HD, naturally, is included. It works well on all 5 channels with the
included software but that's not all - further software improvements are in
the pipeline.

Nice remote control too! Even a bonus T-shirt was included in the package,
a nice surprise!

See http://www.digitalnow.com.au/

(PS: this isn't an ad - I'm simply a happy customer.)
