Can I watch a settop DVD thru an LCD monitor?

Sorry to sound dense but I'm a total noobie, here. I want to buy an elderly
lady a DVD player but I think she would have trouble selecting the
appropriate AV mode if it is connected to her TV (she gets vague and
forgetful, so it has to be kept VERY simple.)

Portable DVD players don't have large enough screens, so can I buy an LCD
monitor and plug it straight to it? If yes, what inputs would I need. I
guess that a monitor with speakers/s-video/composite should do but I'm not
even sure if such a beast exists.

Do you have any thoughts on suggested brands, RRPs, etc? I'm in Sydney's
outer-west (Blacktown area.)

Any help greatly appreciated.

There is a simpler (and cheaper) solution. Get an RF Modulator from
Dick Smith or Jaycar.

This'll turn the AV signals from the player into an RF channel, which
can be tuned on the TV.

This way it'll just be a matter of changeing channel until she finds
the menu, rather than finding the AV button if she's being a bit
vague.

Otherwise: Yes you can buy LCD monitors for AV use, have a look in
Strathfield Car Radios, I think they stock a couple of models.
