Re-conditioned XMS-888, Reduced price

Guys,

FYI:

Hi-FI Corp which is owned by SCR has some refurbished XMS players at a reduced price of $100.00 The only catch is that it comes with 3 months warranty.

Could this be an indication of how poorly the first run of XMS-888 quality control was handled. Sounds like a lot of the players we returned have been fixed up in sufficient quantities to warrant a resell operation.

How many of us here bought at $249 (rrp)?

Looks like the most common problem was 'disc error' due to heat, which is most likely caused by tolerance variance on the main decoder chip.

Does the top of you guy's XMS-888 get warm/hot after an hour of play?

Probably not enough to get an idea (they only got 16 players, from a first run of 1800 players) it will probably take a bit longer before there is enough of a pattern.
