XMS-888 problems with MPG ?
Heya all,
I have a question, has anyone else experienced any freezing/pixeling when playing MPG files. i have been able to successfully play these files on the PC without a problem, however sometimes if i play them on the XMS they play fine but then they start freezing and pixeling.. this seems to be only MPG files.. im running version 1.2 firmware... thanks. |

I just tried some MPG files that came from my Sony DSCP-72 camera, these played fine on my XMS-888 (also ver1.2), they were a bit pixilated, but they are only Mpeg-1, and are a bit pixalated on my PC as well. (nothing like as good as Mpeg-4).
I didn't have any freezing of the files, but they are only a couple of minutes in length. |

Freezing / pixelling can occur if the player is having trouble reading the disc. Typically PCs are better at reading a variety of disc surfaces/conditions. Things to try are: - Clean the disk surface (e.g. window cleaner and lint free cloth) - Try different discs: (e.g. blue / silver layers, CD+R / CD+RW, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, brands) You'll probably find that there are some brands of CD / DVD blanks that play better than others. Cheers, Laz. |

Wiggy,
I'm guessing that the video is breaking up & you're getting parts of the picture left from the previous frames. If this is the case then LastActionHero is probably right. The video stream contains keyframes every 50 frames or so usually at the change in scene. The video stream from then on only contains the changes from the previous frame up till the next keyframe. If the player is unable to read the keyframe 100% reliably, then the video will not be correct until the next keyframe is played. Some video formats have fixed keyframe spacing & they could be 500 or more frames apart. Others, like DIVX, usually have a keyframe at each scene change or a much smaller, fixed, spacing on longer scenes. Anyway I hope this helps you understand what might be happening. Cheers |
