New XMS Squeaks

I just bought it from Strathfield, and when its reading its making a squeaking sound - very loud one too.

Do I have a dud? Either way I'm taking it back tomorrow - as I've put XVID's and DivX's into it - and it wasnt able to play 'em - one said wrong Codec - the other just couldnt even find the CD - after sitting there squeaking for about 2 minutes.

It hasnt been able to play those even after a firmware update. So - has yours ever squaked? This can't be a normal behaviour - as its way too loud.

Thanx for you input.

Sounds as though it may be a faulty drive from your description, take it back and get it swapped is perhaps the best idea.

ok - replaced it - and works perfectly

so just beware- if it squeaks - take it back -

the reason i got a replacement/swap -is because i've heard so many good things about them.

Often when faulty goods come back in they just put it back on the shelf. I know because i watched them do it when i took back a faulty phone.

Unhappy

I just found my machine squeaking last night. Was just relaxing in the loungeroom when I noticed a high pitched sound. The player was on standby. It kinda sounds like a mosquito in your ear only constantly. I invited my friend in the room to try and pin-point the sound. After about 20 minutes we decided to turn off the the power to everything in the room consecutively. That was when we realised it was the player. I think I'll take it back now, and I'm getting angry because strathfield also sold me a faulty tv which I had to get replaced - not easy when you have a 2-door car and now I have to take back the dvd player too. Soon I'll probably end up replacing everything.
