Trio-628 Observations

Hey All
Ive had the Trio-628 for some time, and iam fairly happy with it. Ive made some observations

Ive been trying various CD's containg various AVI files ive collected over time.

A lot of my movies will play perfectly but get to a point and freeze. The only course of action is to eject & reload. I ran the CD's through Nero scandisk and it identified some damaged sectors. copying the AVI file to a new CD allowed it to play flawlessly the whole way through.

Very interesting.. it let do some further though.

The antiquated AVI container is totally unsuited to this application ie unreliable media.

MP4 is a much more reliable container but currently there is no way to mux AC3 soundtracks. Also it is still heavily under development and is not yet finalised.

This player does not supports reliable Open Source containers like OGG & Matroska and probably never will.

SO looks like we are stuck with sh*tty AVI and its inherent problems.
