X-Box or PS2?

I'm trying to decide which one to buy X-Box or PS2, the prices are very similar but what about features, games, quality?
I think i will end up with a PS2 unless someone can change my mind and give a good reason to go for the X-Box

go PS2, x-box was a huge let down in my opinion since microsoft didnt implement the right hardware i.e. the cpu and gpu they used. I played a ps2 for a couple days and it was sweet, gran turismo is cool. Same with blade 2. X-box graphics arent anywhere near a good as the sonys.

my opinion

Prefer PS2

Have only really used X Box one week-end / own a PS2 but feel that it's the established one...more titles and periferals. just bought Region Free DVD from UK for $20 which means I can watch any DVd for small cost...

I bought an XBOX for the games I wanted to play, and while PS2 has games I also want to play (e.g. Virtua Fighter 4), all the new games coming out are on both.

Eventually I bought a second hand XBOX with games and haven't looked back. Sega GT2002 is easily an equal for Gran Turismo 3, Colin McRae Rally 3 is awesome as well.

You have to base the choice on what games you want to play. Not on what the specs are or which has the better websites etc etc etc. Support for both will continue on, its not an issue.

Playstation 2

I would go the PS2..

I am biased, but still I dont like the feel of the x-box. I would prefer the gamecube over it even.

Too me PS2 is the way to go. 3 Words. FINAL FANTASY X.... This game was a true delight and hell words cannot describe how much I enjoyed the experience.

Wash your mouth out with soap! (j/k)

Some of the games actually look alright to me, but i would never pay money for GC.

Nintendo have a woeful history of undersupply. I used to work retail and dealt with them constantly. Never any stock, never enough when they do get it in, poor channel support. I can't see the GameCube becoming very big, it's only got a few proprietary games which are any good too. Where are the bigname games on GC??

Guys, I'm not that up to date on the specs of the new consoles, so..........

Looks like Santa will bring me a console for Xmas, but I need to decide which one. I don't want a Gamecube.
Yeah, PS2 has a huge back catalogue of games, but I'll more than likely buy games just every now and then, and it will be new ones as they came out to really good reviews. Does that make sense?

So, if I'm only interested in buying recently released games and future games that get excellent reviews, which console is best?
Doesn't X Box have the best graphics, etc?

One last thing....
If I want to be able to watch region 1 DVDs on the console, how easy is it to region mod the current consoles?
Is there a disc you can buy to do this?

If it's any help, The X Box Entertainment Pack is at the top of my list at the moment.

Thanks.

I don't think you'll be able to play the original streetfighters unless you get the PS2. streetfighter 2 was released on Playstation I think, so you'd have to find this which will need a PS2 to play it.
Of course, you can go the new SF's, with SF3 and SFalpha. I think they where released on both X-box and PS2.

Then you've got the whole Capcom (Streetfighter series) Vs SNK (king of fighters series), Capcom Vs SNK 2, Capcom Vs Marvel.
The list is never ending.....

No matter how big the X-box may get, this is the one thing that will get the PS2 through. If your an RPGer (there's a lot of you out there. Admit it ) , The final fantasy's are always on the "Have to play" list. And the final fantasy series is a PS2 Exclusive.

Afaik, only the ps2 can me made Region Free with a special "Region X" disc, whilst the X-Box requires a hardware mod.

It really is a personal preference.

I'm still a bit annoyed w/ the N64 and all the lack of games for grown up kids. Altho Wave Race 64 & GoldenEye are still 2 of my favourite games ever made.

No denying Final Fantasy will sell consoles. I didn't think I would like these games, but got FFVIII when I got my original PSX. Havent looked back, including collecting the old SNES ports on to PSX. I miss the SNES days.

I wouldn't buy a PS2 just for GT3 though. I'm rather passed this game now....

Well looks like PS2 is the clear winner so far and since Metal Gear Solid isn't available on the X-Box i think that i'm almost convinced to go for the PS2.

Thanx for the feedback guys

I have a PS2, so I'm probably biased, as I have never played full time on the XBOX.

BUT: if you're still wondering, try out the controllers for either console, and see what's more comfortable.

When playing XBOX instore, I found the controllers very unwieldy, PS2 controllers seem easy enough to get used to. Admittedly, I guess it's just a matter of time before any controller feels familiar.

I did hear that they were going to make a version of XBOX controller to suit the Asian market, to cope with their smaller hands, and I feel that this would be the way to go. Not sure about after market stuff that's out there, that could be the answer.

It's no rumour. It's already released here (back in October). It's called the XBOX Controller "S". It's the same as the one released with Japanese XBOXs and features a smaller controller overall, and slightly different button positioning to suit. About $59.95 I think, slightly cheaper than the normal XBOX controllers.

I've been a happy Xbox owner since it's launch and I can happily recommend it. Of late there have been some great game releases (Splinter Cell, Deathrow, Mech Assault to name a few) and the massive entertainment pack is excellent value for money (best of the currrent systems).
