Backorder, please explain

Hi All,

I ordered some movies from dvdpacific and they have put Bourne Identity into backorder, does this mean they don't have the title and are waiting for new stock?

If not please explain why a new item is placed into backorder.

Also how can I tell if an item is not in stock at dvdpacific, I didn't see any "out of stock" messages anywere?

P.S yes I am quite fond of the "Please explain" phrase, I think it was the only thing good to come out of p. hanson's mouth

Thanks

Back order means it has been ordered from their supplier and they are waiting for stock to become available.

Hi,

On a new title such as this how long would you expect it to take? 1 week reasonable?

Have you used them before? If so how can you tell if the item is in stock or not before you pay (I only found out after I paid).

thanks

well, its their fault really, they should have specified on their site that they didnt have that particualr dvd in stock. For back-ordered items, the time it takes for them to arrive can vary from place to place. I personally haven't delt with the company in question so i wouldnt know how long it will take them to get it in.

My advice would be e-mail them and ask whats going on...etc

hope it helps,

Hi death,
unfortunately there isn't anyway of knowing whether a title is in stock or not- the best way to find out is by emailing them and asking(they are excellent at getting back to you very quickly when enquiring about a particular title).

You can email them either at : orders@dvdpacific.com OR info@dvdpacific.com .

I have a order with them at the moment- waiting on a title(Stargate Ultimate Ed.) which is due out on the 18th of Feb(but should get it earlier than that- I emailed them earlier this week about this and got a quick response.

hi,

I don't have a CC, my understanding was if I wanted the "member" rate (reasonable prices) I had to pay up front. They are the onlt ones with direct deposit that I know of and so far have shown me excellent customer service by answering all my emails promptly.

I'm not too worried about it I just think I should have been informed before hand. It would have been nice to also get an estimated time for arrival.

thanks

No.

As far as I know, they charge as the items ship.

Death, I have been using DVD pacific for 10+ months now, I have had NO problems with them whatSOever, and yes they are the only company(I am aware of) that offers Direct Debit(the alternatives are taking a chance on Ebay or Sold, Or shop at Minotaur(or other places like that )- obvioulsy for people that don't have access to credit cards.

Not necessarily. A lot of people just can't be bothered ordering stuff themselves and are happy to pay a bit more to get it expressed in two days as opposed to waiting 2-3 weeks.

But that's another debate / topic entirely....

I used dvdpacific for the first time recently. All the items were back orders. Took them a week to get them in. They all turned up in mint condition, sealed and smelling lovely. A small delay is a reasonable price to pay for such competative prices (dig that sentence )

Generally if a web site uses some sort of credit card gateway to charge your card, the money will be taken as soon as you complete the order. (eg. E-Store)

These web sites normally use a third party gateway to process your card. So if it takes you to a different web site at the credit card information stage, or if the site asks you to wait a while while the card has been verified, then they are trying to charge the card live.

dvdpacific did not debit my card until the items were shipped. In that regard theyre just like amazon.com and dvdboxoffice. I refuse to buy from shops that bill you when they don't even havethe stock (hello dvdimport.... got a refund but it took a week!!)

I cancelled and added items numerous times without any probs.

hi all,

thanks for the info.

Now regarding CC's. I can get one if I want to, the banks basically dish em out.

What I want to know is can I use them to order from amazon.com ect.. that only deal with US currency?

If so is there anything different that I need to do or just give em my CC details and that's it?

How does the currency conversion happen? Does the company perform this via the middle person (ie some bank)? How can I find out the rate before purchasing?

I must admit though I much prefer the way dvdpacific handle international markets, since they provide online conversions so you can view all costs and charges in the selected currency. I hope the others do they same.

thanks
