thanks for the info.

Now regarding CC's. I can get one if I want to, the banks basically dish em out.

What I want to know is can I use them to order from amazon.com ect.. that only deal with US currency?

If so is there anything different that I need to do or just give em my CC details and that's it?

How does the currency conversion happen? Does the company perform this via the middle person (ie some bank)? How can I find out the rate before purchasing?

I must admit though I much prefer the way dvdpacific handle international markets, since they provide online conversions so you can view all costs and charges in the selected currency. I hope the others do they same.

thanks
I use the following site to give me an 'idea' of the final cost. Remember though, it doesn't factor in transaction fee's and other great things like that

http://www.xe.com/ucc/

I recently bought something that was calculated as $130 AUD using this site. Looking at my credit card bill I was debited $134. The difference would be a factor of exchange rate fluctuations and transaction processing fees.

Amazon will only require the normal cc details. They will bill you in USD.

Credit cards like VISA are excepted pretty much everywhere.

Shop around when choosing a cc. Theyre not all the same. I dont know if they still offer these, but 'debit cards' are a great middle ground. Less fees but advantages of a normal CC. Ask your bank.

This sounds interesting. I was going to just get a CC that doesn't charge provided you pay on time. Then all I would need to have done is transfer cash from my other acc to pay off the CC everytime I make a purchase.

This sounds like it will save me the hassle.
I'll look into it.

thanks

Hi,

Just in case anyone is interested they just filled the order, it was on backorder for about 1.5 days.

The order status is now "Finished Order" i'm assuming the items have been shipped. Hopefully I'll get em by Friday.

How are you having them posted Death? By DHL(Courier and the quickest, but the More expensive) OR world Mail(slowest but the Cheaper )?
World mail(the way I usually go with DVDPacific is about 2 weeks on average).

Probably 2 weeks at the best I can estimate- my last order from DVD Pacific was shipped on the 2/12/02 and got it on the 16/12/02(via world mail).

what i was told at the bank is that useing your credit card is a better way to go currency conversion wise as visa/mastercard purchase massive amounts of currency thus getting a better exchange rate than just say going into the bank and getting the cash. But yes then there is the transfer fee which is about 3 bucks for every 200 bucks or so spent.

hi,

thanks for the info. For now I think I will stick to dvdpacific as they have a DD account in Aus. So far I havn't heard any problems with them. So if they do right by me I will continue to use them.

If not then I will look for alternatives.

thanks
