Liteon LVW-5005 vs LVW-5001

Having a look at the specs, the main difference seems to be

5005: supports writing to DVD-R and -RW formats and writes to SVCD

I quite like the idea of writing to +RW, which the 5001 supports. I don't need SVCD writing.

Do I really need to spend the extra $100 on the 5005 or am I missing some other "must have" that the 5005 has?

5001 writes to DVD+R/RW 5005 does DVD+/-R/RW and CDR/RW the rest I think is pretty much the same, they even take the same firmware upgrade on some models which suggests there is not a lot of difference.

I certainly wouldn't touch the 5001- for one it doesn't have a cooling fan. I have this family friend who gets a lot of 2nd hand computer gear cheap or for free (no it's not stolen! ) and he has come across a lot of Liteon CD burners etc that stuffed up because of overheating etc. That little fan is a must-have.

Another reason I won't touch this machine, it doesn't do audio CD's (does it?)and that is a big issue for me. Plus it only does DVD+R etc (and not the minus media).

But, other than this oversight, I heard it is an easier unit to modify. It has MacroVision disable without having to do any firmware upgrades.
