DVD recorders

Hoping one of you guys can help me as I am certainly no electronics whiz!

I have purchased a DVD recorder (an el cheapo, as I just want to see what it can do first!) but can't even connect it. At the moment I have the tv, video, foxtel and stereo all hooked up and working a treat, but when I try to connect the dvd recorder to the tv (as the instruction manual says) nothing happens. Should I really be connecting the white, red and yellow cables to the video or to foxtel?

Please help (as the "customer service" is of no assistance at all)!

kristin5, could you tell us what type of dvd recorder and tv you have , it could help with the best connections to use.
But you do need to connect the DVD Recorder to foxtel or other "Input" ie aerial socket, to recieve a signal. Then A/V (the red, white and yellow) "out" to your TV.

How did you go kristin5 ?

I downloaded the digitrex manual and you would probably connect it up like this picture. where it says "external a/v signal" this would be your VCR.
I presume you have your foxtel already hooked to your VHS and then out to your TV ?
I know some DVD recorders have issues with VCR's , but this one should be OK.

I have hooked it up exactly as it says in the manual and have even spoken to a technician now, but still no good. I can get sound but no picture, so I assume something is wrong with the yellow (video) cable connection. I have tried others, but nothing works. Now I am at a loss???

Good news - have got it working! No idea how though, just playing around with various connections.

And it all works beautifully now

Thanks for all your help, Rick.
