Unhappy Hyundai DVR900a dvd recorder

I brought one of these a few months ao from a shop on ebay, it has a 1 year warranty.

The problem I have is that when I use +r discs, more than half the amount I record will playback fine on this machine, but not my LG video/dvd player combo. Some will work, some won't, which would be fine if this machine would last forever but it won't. If anything happened to this machine those discs are useless.

My question is does anyone else with this machine have the same problem? I have tried 4 or 5 different brands of discs and have just tried some +rw which work fine.

I need an idea of how many discs don't work for other people so I know whether to send my machine back for testing. I know that all discs won't work all of the time and I should expect some coasters, but I loose about 50 -70% by them not working on other machines which means I also can't lend them to anyone.

Another thing that bothers me is that when I chose the AV on the recorder it makes the tv screen green, it moves and makes a horrible sound that gets louder the longer its on. It goes away once the video I'm recording is playing as it overridden by the video picture I suppose, but I can't get the recorder to record if the video is playing first before I press record. I either get an error on the display or the machine pauses and won't budge until I press stop.

I tried different connections but no other way would let me record at all.

If anyone can help I would be really grateful as this recorder is driving me nuts!!!

thanks!

I have had this machine for 3 months and it is seriously buggy, too many to mention. Initially 1/3 of my disks would not finalise correctly (that is not play on other machines). My last 30 recordings are perfect since I did 2 things-
use Ritek +R exlusively and always hit setup finalise immedietly after a recording ( you can do multiple sessions and take the disk out of the machine but always do a recording if only 20 secs. then hit setup finalise straight away). If you use RW then TDK is easily the best in my exprience, 20% of Ritek RW 'stick" or are reformated each time you put them into the machine. Laser is landfill Avoid.

Have you "finalised" your disks?

Hi - the fact that +RW disks don't need finalising to play on other machines suggests that smokyzena is not finalising other types of disks.

I have a Liteon 5005 recorder and use the finalise option after burning anything but +RW's and they work fine on other people's DVD players. Good luck.
Roy.

One exclamation mark would have done!

I was simply trying to help someone who may not have known too much about burning the different types of DVD's. If you know what the problem is - pitch the device and give up those Dale Carnegie courses.

I was finalising them, they just don't work. They work fine on the original machine.

I have since tried rw and they work perfectly, I haven't had any problems at all, and have since brought a burner for the computer to put them on other discs to keep, so hopefully I won't have any more problems.

thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only one with this problem

Still a 2 step process,if you decide to use Ritek 4X +R which solved my problem you can get them from

Flexisoft Computers
<http://www.abcd.com.au/Osiab/Asp/Frameset.asp>
$25 for 25 or $12 for 10, postage $11.50

or Secretnet
<http://www4.secret.com.au/cgi-bin/computers/trialdb.pl?sect+CD_and_DVD/Media>

$27 for 25 or $12 for 10, postage about $8

Also Techbuy is listing 50 Ritek 4x for $40.85, not sure if they are the same but I will try them.

Same Here.

Hi there

Mine is doing the same thing. The DVDs I burnt in it's early life all play fine on my DVD player and PC, but later ones come up as empty disks in XP and also eventually say "No Disc" in my DVD player after some weird sounds.

Re - the white noisy screen, that happens on mine if there's a loop between the VCR and DVD recorder - you can still see the menus, but the screen is white and there is a noise that repeats 4 times a second.

Going to try sending mine back on warranty - a disappointment of a machine really.

I posted some other stuff about it on http://auzzie.net/personal/www/dvr900a.html

Cheers, Miike.
